    • You have to marvel at how many members they have and the big betting banks they’re able to generate. Anything that spikes the interest of under fifty year olds has to be good. It would be good if some professional punters got a youtube channel going with a New Zealand focus. Something like Racing Rant or Little Birdie. I guess with the TAB being quick to put a stop on anyone who makes a profit there aren't a lot (probably none) able to make a living off the punt in NZ. I realise most of these guys aren't true professional punters, more professional tipsters, but they're still entertaining and they can come up with some interesting analysis. They take some shots at those running and milking the industry which Mick and co are never going to do. No doubt Entain would quickly want to get its hooks into it by sponsoring it and turning it into what they would want it to be. The Leg Up isn't too bad, but it's still the guys selling you the bets producing the show.
    • Won't happen. The Te Awamutu course no longer has a liquor license. I believe the above poster is right about Tauranga being ushered out by the gallops which struck me as unusual because I am fairly sure the trotting club has a stake or at least entitlements to the track and could have raced there rent-free once they merged with Cambridge. Thames was the favourite for a return in the last few years but it's seriously in a state of disrepair. The television cabling all got ripped up, the barn suffered a fire, the track is grown over and unkempt and there are cows grazing all over it. In its favour is a passionate local committee and a general willingness from the powers that be to run a summer series there. The latest chatter though is a return to racing on the grass at Ruakaka, which has a hugely popular January gallops date that gets very small numbers. It used to be a dual code before the Northland HRC got bullied out of its date by Auckland and was wound up. The Horseman's Association is definitely pushing for either that early January date or a two-day meeting perhaps later in January.
    • I see they have Chaource 4th up starting in a 1400m again.  Perhaps the Rogerson team forgot this R63 mare was only 3L behind Positivity and Qali Al Farasha in a 2100 last year...
    • The same people who jump all over trackside presenter tips; commentator tips; their neighbours tips; "expert" tips.  Gives them someone else to blame when it doesn't win.  Personally I trust only one person and can't understand the logic of needing reassurance from anothers opinion, AI or human, but to each their own.. Side note for those that want others to do it for them... I see easybets are back on the TAB website.  Maybe they have been there a while and I just never noticed it?  I know when the TAB website shifted to the new design there were a lot of folks disgruntled they were gone, so I hope those same folk have also noticed their return.
    • What I don’t get is….”Why would anyone give a monkey’s doodle about what Entain has to say in their comments?” If that’s how you base your betting, more fool you.
    • Another poor afternoon of tipping - the ground didn’t seem to dry out that much. If you took the short odds on IRISH LEGACY, a couple of moments of concern but he was far too good. CARISBROOKE CASTLE was disappointing but I think he needs quicker ground. I would give ZORMELLA another chance with the benefit of experience. Performance of the card for me was AFTERMATH. He’s in the Auckland Cup - not sure about that but he looks one to progress over further. Another for the notebook might be EVE’S SONG who didn’t get any run but it’s not the first time and I just wonder if she’s one of those who makes her own bad luck. On to Waverley tomorrow - FLYING ANGEL has already caught my eye as a debutante in the second but the market doesn’t want to know with DRAMATIC MISS short overnight and to be fair she kept some decent company in spring maidens.
    • Our best race of the year in Aus most years.. Is like a NZ Cup . fantastic.  A total roll call of champions have won this race . All the greats for 45 years. of both NZ and Oz.   Almost ALL of the TOP 20 horses of that half century have won it  This year the BIG BOY Brothers are second row . Leap To Fame and Swayzee.. that could beat them if the 3 x kiwi's work togeather off the front?? .  do it boys 😆 Don't Stop Dreaming was terrific last year ( and in NZ Cup too , where he nearly beat Swayzee. ) Horse to beat with Mark the Goat driving.
    • I noticed that at the time , he has held that place together for years now , thought that was rough .
    • Keayang Chucky impressive last week but it will be hard for him from the unruly. The horse is prone to making mistakes but has the ability. Despite the draws I think Leap to Fame and Swayzee better than the rest of field. The draw evens it up but despite the bad draws both horses will be there at the finish. What about some of the other Aussie horses Pure? Intercom champion Don Hugo and old timers Bulletproof Boy and Max Delight, all racing well? Melton is a front runners track and difficult to make ground from the back. Could Republican Party lead all the way? If they go hard, Hart is sure to put super stayer Swayzee into the race, it could leave it open for a late swooper like Don't Stop Dreaming? Interesting race because of draw!
    • Crap draw for Leap To Fame ? . levels it up a bit. Swayzee was huge in the Victoria Cup on this track in October, before the excellent NZ Cup win. where DSD had every hope to beat him . So might select  Swayzee 1 - Don't Stop Dreaming 2 -  Tact McLeod 3 .... for Ants and Mark Jones from the Good draw.  For the Trot , Oscar Bonavena is racing twice on the night . Drawn awkwardly race 2 , but just needs to qualify for Race 8 the Great Southern Star, so looking for a nice draw in that after the 2 heats are run .
    • Mick recently had Sir Peter on his G Report. Can anyone please post the whole interview on this thread.? When Mick asked Sir Peter Vela about the trainers and horse people he has had and respected I want to  count the number of times he mentions Leon Casey and Sheila Laxon.
    • Plenty of NZ trainers will end up with a nice horse or two. Furthermore if they do well, Gerry will probably even give them one to train in the future.
    • Waikato at the time pissed a few people off [venders] at the time, but they are still here going gangbusters. Gerry is no different.
    • Exactly , got to take them home and feed them and look after them and then try and find homes , smart move , more should do it .
    • IMO the optimal thing to do with the Cambridge Sunday meeting at the end of Jan would be to shift into February and run it at Te Awamutu on the grass. It might cost the club more to run and their catering arm might need to work out of different premises but bigger fields and a different catchment for attendees/sponsors may be better for the survival of NI harness racing.
    • Well done to Westbury. They produce a lot of horses, so I guess there is a limit to how many can be kept for their own racing team. I think Waikato Stud made a similar move a few years back.
    • Give the man his due , he puts heaps into NZ racing , races stacks of horses and supports stacks of different trainers . Might be more than a few bargains to be had .
    • Woohoo!!! Janitor mate our young guns drew well 🤗 MarkP will work his magic I'm sure...   Cheers Iraklis
    • Not travelling horses to the CD for races .
