Saturday was the start of NZ Cup Week and I hate to say it but I thought the fields at Riccarton on the weekend were rather poor for mine. Not a huge amount of depth and the field sizes weren't capacity throughout the day. It got me thinking, how can we improve it. If you at Melbourne, the last day a few years back used to a bit tame compared to all other days, but now since they have introduced Champions Day it has rejuvenated the last day and arguably the best of the 4 days. I think there was something like 37 Group 1 winners at Flemington on Day 4.  I think 2 group races on the middle day (Wednesday) is unnecessary. Keep the TAB Mile on Wednesday (formerly - Couplands) and move the Breeder's Stakes to Day 1, which could allow horse to drop back to Stewards Stakes over 1200m on the last day. For me: Day 1 - Saturday: 2000 Guineas Day Maiden - 1200m (Qualifier for Maiden 1200m series)  Rating 65 - 1600m Rating 75 - 1200m Rating 75 - 1600m Rating 75 - 2000m Special Conditions - 1600m or 1800m (only eligible for South Island trained horses - 1 win prior to a certain date). We saw this concept was terrific for Southern Alps and Remutaka Classic. On our free to Air racing channel in Australia , the most popular tips show is called GET ON. It might even be broadcast in Nz. who knows?. But essentially 4 panel members sit there and virtually pick 2 horses each per race , (and so there's a pile of up to 8 horses per race tipped) per Vic/Syd race, TOTALLY pointless Really. they're no better than any TAB punter. BUT they try and make it fun by having segments called GROUP 1 Strategies, LET IT RIDE, Last Man Standing , etc for fun . But they lose on All those segments week to week , and generally pick one or 2 Winners each per week. but good luck pulling a winner out of the shows 50 horses picked in an hour of 'trash' TV. Make it fun losing your money is their MOTTO 😋 .  Same as everybody else. Essentially SPORTSBET the show sponsor was to sucker people in to betting. So they RE-Broadcast the Thursday filmed  show 8 to 10 times on the lead up to race-day Saturday every week . Is like they're the experts supposedly , But they DEFINITELY are NOT. just blokes having fun enjoying the racing. (and paid too much by channel 7 lol  😅)    I think Tipsters NEED to Look like they're having Fun with it , for public appeal while their sponsors take your money is what i'm saying.  The Whale obviously doesn't going by the feedback on this thread lol.

Won't HRNZ just take a little bit more off Rangiora and Winton to keep Auckland afloat? Possibly get Nelson to put on a fundraising meeting to help out Auck.

Heck no I aint punting on his tips.  Im very much on the record saying avoid tipsters, avoid the form blurbs, avoid the trackside hosts and commentators pre race tips.  They are there solely to generate revenue from you.  Its lazy.  Its not fun.  He could call himself an expert tipster, he could call himself god for all I care.  Most would accept he is neither and move on.  But we keep getting a weekly sooky session keeping this thread live for 17 months.  

If you are happy punting on his tips and you think he is a wonderful tipster I guess you must be making a fortune. Good for you. Reality if anyone was a good tipster they wouldn't be tipping to make money. They would keep it to themselves and preserve the price. Yes I know it is different nowadays with fixed odds. Personally I wouldn't listen to any tipsters. People are suckers paying for someone to tell them what to bet - these types of people read horoscopes and still believe in santa - but each to his own. My complaint is why is he employed when he brings almost nothing to the table except a conflict of interest, has no on screen personality or charisma, has a boring monotone voice, is unappealing to the eye, and wouldn't attract any new younger blood into the game. Can you list anything about him that is good for the future of the the industry? We already know YOU think people can make money of his wonderful tips - what else do you think he is good for in promoting the spending of younger peoples dollar (older people already know that paying for tips is a scam hehe)

The start is going to be crucial and lets hope it is a fair one (very doubtful these days when the drivers dictate when to go and not the starter. We all know that Swayzee is coming sooner or later for the lead and so there is going to be a mad rush in the first 600 metres to get to the front so as to get the sit behind him. If Blair beats Merlin to the front their is no way he will be handing to anyone except Swayzee. The same could be said for some of the other quick beginners. If they hand up to anyone except Swayzee they risk being shuffled back on the fence. However contrary to the above 3 or 4 back on the fence could be ok as I am sure if Swayzee gets to the front he will be taking no prisoners like last year and gaps will appear. There shouldn't be any unlucky runners. Whoever wins, at this stage there is only one glamour horse in the race - Swayzee - and a couple of maybe very good horses who have not really dominated so far. Reality is 80% of them are just filling up the numbers and are going to be getting in the way but I guess that is what brings a lot of luck into the equation. If there were only 10 horses in the field Swayzee would be paying $1.50 or less - the same as what Leap to Fame would have paid if he had started without Swayzee in the feild

I don’t believe that NZ breeders do have access to him. I know there is a Walner racing in Aussie but don’t know how that came about.  He is the only one I know of In Australasia. 

+31% for those who bothered to follow the Whales tips through the course of the week ending 10 Nov, doing an each-way bet on each tip. These are based on tote results - I don't know what they were paying at the time of being picked.  One would guess a bit more than the final market. +11% last week +9% the week prior to that 17 months of moaning debunked within 17 minutes.  Happy to report the wins/losses each week for those interested in real facts, not feelings.

The GBR  to Turnover for this meeting was actually  30.7%, which gave a GBR of $541k from only $215k of funding, which included Stakes of $187k. This is by far the best GBR figure for the first 3 months of this season, the next best was  $292k by Timaru, a week earlier.
