I do not believe that they have told the full story. My understanding is that the Racing Club purchased the two Railway Road properties for $6.9M which was fully funded by ANZ. This land was possibly an option for a new racecourse, but they appear to have not done their due diligence fully because they subsequently were informed that the land they purchased is not zoned to allow for a racecourse as it is zoned for horticulture / Viti culture.
They are now looking to sell this land, but it seems highly unlikely that they will receive sufficient to cover the debt of $6.9M. Meanwhile they have to pay interest on the $6.9M plus other debt. Another example of a Racing Club getting into property deals which have gone sour.
Hope they get it sorted soon. you've been a nervous wreck with it this year and might be near meltdown.
Good on the club for still Running Races against the odds. Well done ATC on a great night last night of action packed racing . Long may it continue . Good to see a club with the foresight to look after their regular's last night . What a great innovation.
Don't forget Te Rapa [Saturday meeting] run a couple of weeks after the Hastings. It too was also abandoned.
Ellerslie at the beginning of the year didn't have a very good run with their Saturday/Feature Days.
Trentham about 4 weeks back lost their Saturday also, because of the overnight rain.
So you see MULEBACKER, I think that you were shooting from the hip and slightly misfired.
P.S. You made reference to the Old Boys Club. Are you the son of Colin Wightman as he is forever going on about the Old Boys Club?

I recall plenty of Saturday abandonments in recent times. Including the Group 1 meeting at Hastings. Surely if the jockeys are prepared to ride when the stake money is going then there would be no chance of abandonment on a G1 day. If it is true that Saturday meetings aren't abandoned at the same rate as midweeks, perhaps that is because the track managers at the Saturday venues do a superior job when compared to their colleagues at country/provincial tracks that host the midweek racing?

Abandonments are up 200pct on 10 years ago but strangley not much change in Saturday Abandonment rate - I wonder why ? Just a coincidence Im Sure
You wont need the animal rights crowd to kill your industry - youre doing it yourselves
I know 2 owners who have had enough of all the abaonments for the healthy and safety circus and are out
Why arent Saturday meets abandoned to the same rate as the this midweeks and No, the correlation is with stake money and not the particular track. Being a jockey carries inherent risks - but at the moment it is being sanitised out of existence.

I don't mind Sidorova each way in the same race,. A healthy respect for Katherine too, by far the best horse in the race, but she always needs an ounce of luck in the run to show it.

Gore today hardly inspiring, but North Island horses starting down there are always of interest.
R7 Canny Man $5 and Caledonie $10 ( with Tina C on ) have both run against better horses than these.
R8 Me Liberez $15 with Donovan Coopers 2kg off. Won both races on heavy tracks and third up. Home track too.
