    • 😠 Putin appeared open to a cease-fire with Ukraine President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday seemed to voice preliminary support for a cease-fire, but made it clear he was in no hurry. He said he wanted to continue negotiating with President Trump, but told reporters in Moscow that Russia was in favor of a 30-day truce — with numerous conditions. Among the questions he hopes to address, Putin said, is whether Kyiv would continue getting arms shipments during the truce, and how the cease-fire would be monitored and enforced. He said that Ukrainian forces occupying land in the Kursk region wouldn’t be allowed to peacefully withdraw. Kyiv could instead order them “to simply surrender.” He did not repeat his demand that Kyiv cede land from four regions in exchange for a cease-fire. Trump said yesterday that the U.S. and Ukraine had been discussing land that Kyiv would have to give up as part of an agreement to end the war, and told reporters that “a lot of the details of a final agreement have actually been discussed.” Quote: President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said that Putin only wanted to continue the war and had set so many preconditions “that nothing will work out at all or that it will not work out for as long as possible.” Front lines: Russia claimed to have retaken Sudzha, the main population center in the part of the Kursk region of Russia that Ukraine captured last summer. Here’s what to know. Ripple effects: Israel-Hamas cease-fire talks were in limbo as the U.S. turned its attention to talks with Russian officials in Moscow over the war in Ukraine.   More on Trump A judge ordered six federal agencies to rehire thousands of workers who had been fired as part of Trump’s government-cutting initiative. • Re season change. I guess there's a reason but Aug 1 was a date recognized and accepted. Now well who knows what the feelings are. I must admit hiding a couple of mares in the back paddock due to foal late Dec no longer necessary.  The whole set up now re Harness Racing IMO was more fun 30 years ago when people actually went racing ,every farmer had a couple of broodmares in the back paddock etc etc. The only good thing IMO is they relaxed the retirement age for drivers. M Holmes forced out far to early! So " we are doomed"  getting back to Aug 1 perhaps they should have made it April 1
    • Fuckwit Trump should try telling the truth when he talks to the media rather than all of his false stories and perhaps the press will not hound him for his bullshit.

    • Oh how the mighty has fallen. This from BBC sports Dettori 'embarrassed' after filing for bankruptcy   Image source,Getty Images Image caption, Frankie Dettori bid farewell to British racing with a double triumph at Ascot in October 2023 Published 1 hour ago Veteran jockey Frankie Dettori says he feels "embarrassed" after he filed for bankruptcy having been unable to reach agreement with His Majesty's Revenue and Customs over a long-running case of tax avoidance. The 54-year-old Italian, a mainstay of the British and European flat-racing scene for 37 years, has ridden more than 3,300 winners during his career. Dettori's financial situation became public knowledge in December last year when his plea for anonymity lodged in November was rejected by a High Court judge. The case was brought against Dettori after he had employed professional specialist tax advisers to oversee his and his family's financial affairs.   ADVERTISEMENT Dettori, who was awarded an MBE in 2001, terminated relations with those advisers last year and subsequently employed the services of a different set of financial experts in attempt to resolve the case. "For the last six months, my advisors have been working with HMRC in an attempt to find a solution to my financial situation," Dettori said in a statement. "I am saddened and embarrassed by this outcome and would advise others to take a stronger rein over their financial matters. "Bankruptcy is a major decision and its consequences will affect me for many years." It is estimated Dettori, now based in California, has earned between £15-£20m from racing alone. He has also made a name for himself outside racing, having been a captain on BBC programme A Question Of Sport, appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here and opened a series of Italian restaurants. There has been no indication how much Milan-born Dettori, who partnered 287 Group One winners and rode all seven winners in one meeting at Ascot in September 1996, owed. A HMRC spokesperson said: "We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts and do everything we can to help those who engage with us to get out of debt, such as offering instalment plans." Dettori stopped riding in the UK in 2023 but has continued his career in the United States and says he now hopes to be able to concentrate on his day job. "I am relieved to be drawing a line on this long-term matter, which enables me to reset and focus on my international riding career," he said.   BBC Sports
