From Nov 1 drivers will have to "zip it" before the start. John Morrison and John Dunn will need counseling to get through this rule? One wonders if there will be a rule on drivers talking about the chances of their drives AND will the WHALE be charged with handing out false information. Been trying to find where I read this but cannae find it now so the above maybe a load of bolocks

Let’s get real shall we. This Government inherited a bloody mess thanks to Labour mismanagement and overspending…..$139B a year that’s nearly $30k for everyone of us. Our debt in March 2024 was $164B with an account deficit of $24B. Interest in 2026 will be $9.2B up from 4.6 in 2022. And some of you are surprised things are tough ? No Harry Potter magic here, it will take time, and no doubt, more pain. Unemployment has increased to 4.6% (143,000 ) with younger age groups particularly affected…15-24 at 28%. Hardly surprising with a declining GDP, wage inflation of 4.3%, leading to tougher economic conditions ( ask retail, hospo ) and decreasing job numbers/opportunities. Add the increase in those on benefits and it is not a pretty picture. Interest rates are coming down, tax cuts have helped though not enough, and the real estate market is moving again with prices at more realistic levels. Now if the Reserve Bank could just get its act together…… Light at the end of the tunnel, or freight train coming ? Let’s be positive shall we ?

And making even more happy. The biggest contributor to the country's economy is still , like it or not rural NZ and times are improving for that sector , those who get pissed off have been badly misled by the previous government with their crazy unrealistic low interest rates and the massive increase in government spending with borrowed money to prop up civil servants and fairy tail projects , reality is slowly returning . -

Because that is where the betting comes from. Well the majority anyway. However after Te Akau’s success yesterday at Cambridge it might give a lead to other stables to change tack and follow. Who knows?

You will remember that at the Karaka Yearling Sales, Entain purchased a number of yearlings in conjunction with a group of the leading trainers. From memory the trainers included Tony Pike, Stephen March etc, etc. Does anyone know how these “racing clubs” will work, if that is what they are called? I haven’t seen anything advertised to the general TAB customers. Maybe they are a closed shop only for the Elite punters. If you know something, an update would be great.

I will get to last weekend's reviews - promise. However, a bit of the real thing this afternoon with a visit to Sandown for the final flat meeting of the year. There's something about autumn racing in fine weather and in truth a modest crowd for a midweek card. Last year had just over 1,300 paying attendees and I suspect today was much the same. On the track, I relieved the bookies of some money but I saw a potential star in COSMIC YEAR who won the 1400m juvenile maiden by six and a half lengths. Owned by Juddmonte, who of course owned the likes of Frankel and Rainbow Quest to name but two of many champions, he's a son of Kingman out of Passage of Time, herself a daughter of Danehill making COSMIC YEAR a home bred. Passage of Time won five of her thirteen starts, as a juvenile she won the Criterium de Saint Cloud, in a short 3-y-o camapign, she was third in the Vermeille and as a 4-y-o, was also third in the Nassau. She's thrown some good ones, the best probably Time Test. COSMIC YEAR is a full to TEMPUS who is still racing as an 8-y-o gelding. At his peak, TEMPUS was winning Group 3 races in France and running off a mark of 117. The race wasn't run in a particularly strong time - some 4.4 seconds off standard on ground probably still retaining quite a bit of last week's moisture. That said, the horse, having looked in trouble 600m down, came back on the bit and powered clear looking better with each stride. He's been introduced at 20/1 for next year's 2000 Guineas but holds no immediate entries. Juddmonte have a strong group of juveniles across their various trainers and it'll be interesting to see how the cards are played in the next six weeks. Juddmonte had an excellent afternoon with the filly SKELLET winning the 1600m Listed and a winner at Yarmouth as well. Looking ahead, it's an understandably much quieter weekend following last weekend's excitement. Newbury stages the Group 2 Mill Reef over 1200m for the juveniles. 19 entries, four from Ballydoyle, including IDES OF MARCH who has impressed in his last two wins. Gimcrack winner COOL HOOF LUKE has to carry a 3 lb penalty for that success which gives runner up SHADOW LIGHT a real chance of reversing the York form. Favourite, however, is the once raced POWERFUL GLORY from the Fahey yard who looked very good at Pontefract though this is a much tougher challenge.

Hi Could you please take me off the list of entries for this competition. As I now only concentrate on NZ racing since fully retired I'm only guessing on the Aussie races as don't follow them except big cup days. Must congratulate on these competitions and the time you put into them. Cheers Pottsy
