Round 7 - Moonee Valley R3 (3 of 12) Short priced favourite wins but we still lost four lives in that race and Goodison is gone after only three races. -

Picked up a mere $80k for running third last night in Grp 2 company. Pays expenses for a day or three amongst the cognoscenti at Spring HQ (that's Victoria, not Sydney, by the way). I am in no doubt that SNS will never be as good as he was talked up to be (by you know who) during his 3yo pomp. That virus or whatever clearly affected him severely. However, he is racing with plenty of heart/courage and, back at big, roomy Flemington on the first Tuesday in November, another Cup dream could burst into reality. Though I'm no great fan of the Rogerson stable, for the horse's sake I hope it's the dream that comes true not the nightmare.

And what about the those who go off stride behind the arm like Ivan was complaining about a few weeks back. Very slippery slope..

I found the post match interview after the race quite amusing. The interviewer wanted to talk about the karaka million, but the trainer said he was keen on black type first and the jockey said it would be a good horse by the autumn. Good to see the whole season isn't all about one race. -
I'm not suggesting Vega for Luck would have beaten Storm Front by any stretch of imagination. But Vega for Luck was racing fiercely for a great part of the race, it was very noticeable. George Simon didn't mention at all ?? .. for me an accurate description is an attribute of any good race caller.

Looked like another case of 21st century NZ harness. Sort themselves into two running lines, leader gets left alone, and the race is a foregone conclusion with a half mile to go

What a story. Great to see him get a winner after all his health problems.

Interesting. I just run the numbers on the NZ TAB based on fixed pricing (so take with a grain of salt) and the results were: $100 MR B + POJ QUINELLA = $1600 $50 MR B - POJ EXACTA = $1650 $50 POJ - MR B EXACTA = $1300 So in this single example it seems much the same, but the exacta would be better off if the rougher of the two horses win which makes sense given its the less likely outcome.

I didn't see the race, but don't ever recall such a refund ever being offered in circumstances like that before. Can of worms is right.

Exactas, in Aussie, pay much much more than the quinella … a great bet over there. Put it in thru Aus TAB account, it is a punt but I imagine a 250+ exacta if SNS won, but it is a spec for sure

How so? I just looked at his tips and if you put $1 EW on all 6 runners you would have an outlay of $12 and would have won $15.30 based on tote prices. Probably more if you took fixed at the time he put them out. I would take 28% return (relative to spend) every day of the week, and twice on Saturdays.
