Gubes you da man ... pse also tell me about the racing career if there was one of Vignette b 1969 (Shy Boy-High Venture). If memory serves she wasn't fast enough to keep herself warm. Did she leave anything good? If memory serves, Max was a 5th former and some racing types in Woodville were thinking little Max is the right height and weight to be an apprentice jockey...so they tried to get me to take Vignette for a quiet canter around the track. (PS: Max was clever enough to refuse their kind suggestions LOL.) -
Maximus 24 three year olds have won the Melbourne Cup. The most recent was Skipton in 1941. He was ridden by Billy Cook and trained by ex-New Zealander Jack Fryer who trained Wotan to win the 1936 Melbourne Cup. -

Certainly being immature doesn't help the RV vets fail to find any possible injury concerns, but being a 5yo is no guarantee (Muramasa is sound as a bell and passed his trotup before the vets very quickly because it was so obvious he was fine, yet because "there may be a shadow that could possibly develop into a stress fracture in the future" in his CT scans he's now under an embargo and barred from racing). Maybe that's a reason for Via Sistina to skip the race; it's not worth taking the risk that the panel of RV vets find a concern with a patently fully sound horse and end its season/career. You're also probably correct that, if the Victoria Derby field were subject to the same scrutiny, they would all be found to have maturity-related risks and there wouldn't be any runners left to hold the race. -

Maximus Vignette was a ch f bred in 1969 by Shy Boy out of High Venture by Balloch. Her third dam Fondle was the grandam of Light Fingers who won 15 races from 33 starts including the 1964 VRC Oaks, 1965 AJC Oaks and the 1965 Melbourne Cup. Fondle was also a half sister to Cuddle who won 23 races from 66 starts including the 1935 NZ Cup, the 1935 and 1936 Auckland Cups and the 1936 Doncaster Handicap. Vignette herself won 1 race - 7th start at Otaki over 1m on the 8/12/73 ridden by Noel Harris and trained then by Jack and John Winder at Cambridge.

I love the confidence. I haven't sorted out all of my picks yet but I plan to come flying out of the gates with a double figure odds winner that I've found in the first comp race. If I can nab the quinella and somehow fluke the trifecta it could be all over after the first -

I think Larry might do it PS . I heard somewhere they were offering $7 I think for the 3 races . I think this year with the cup and the undercard , they will be the strongest fields they have had for many years . I am hoping Ohoka Connor is in the free for all , because would love to see him up against the other top horses to prove how good he is , just hoping he isn't a run short missing those standing start races . Regardless we are in for some good racing -

Did that work for you Max? Of course if you use VPN to watch channel 9, you then can't access your NZTAB account at the same time so have to bet with your ozzie accounts unless you switch back and forward. Makes little sense to me, but Entain evidently think it increases their business here. -

It was actually Heavy. The Chirnside is now called the Schillaci Stakes Grp 2. Bellatrix Star won it this year. Grey Way had had 16 starts by this time in his career. -
