I must say the Ellerslie track at the last 2 meetings have played exceptionally fair. Especially MELBOURNE Cup day, three winners came from last on the turn. On Saturday some decent wins from back in the field, I hope this can continue over time.
Third win in Green Mile yesterday just showed what a champ he is. How's this for a career record.
73 Starts for 28 wins and a further 21 placings

A critical aspect of stakes distribution is achieving the best outcomes for the industry. For it to survive we need owners. Without them we don't have an industry at all (no horses, breeders, trainers, etc). And as the TAB website shows, punters don't have to bet on horses. So HRNZ and Entain need to get the balance right in ensuring attractive fields for the punters and that owners throughout the country get sufficient enjoyment and returns to keep owning/breeding horses and keep them racing in NZ up the grades. Therefore we need the high stake aspirational races just as much as we need the grass track picnic meetings, and even if the latter may be more profitable, it is the overall industry benefits that matter. Just think of "loss leaders" in retail that attract and keep customers loyal. However, as I said in a recent post, I don't believe they have the balance quite right yet.
That's my understanding that the top 200 is a sand based growing medium which also incorporates the ReFlex mesh elements? Pretty much the same as other synthetics except this has grass growing in it?
Bjorn Baker declared Overpass a "very special horse" after the 6-year-old extended his Ascot record to a stunning 4-for-4 with a dominant triumph in the 1,200-meter (about six-furlong) Winterbottom Stakes (G1) Nov. 30.View the full article

Did it actually play fairly though? Overall if you weren't on the pace you didn't win. None seemed to want to improve around the bend and most waited until nearly straightening.
Which suggests the track is completely sand based.
One of my favourite international race meetings of the year! Love Sha Tin! The atmosphere on course is electric!
