A huge surprise. It very rarely happens. And sorry to say don’t hold your breathe over ever thinking that boring biased so predictable antiquated Halberg award system will ever give recognition to anyone in Racing. -

I dont know but all I know is that IF they want to have a consistent track with the jar out of it they need massive more amounts of water than the pond. I am sure one of our more knowledgable posters will know the amount Sha Tin uses ...its gone from my head but it was a huge huge amount. -

Are you saying that the pond is Ellerslie's only source of irrigation water? -

1 litre will cover 1 square metre to a depth of 1mm. So 2 million litres will cover 40 hectares at a depth of 5ml. I think I have the math right. -

And uses 10x more water than Ellerslie has available to it no matter how you calculate it so lets see over the summer. -

But the Ellerslie pond refills. I don't know how many times or how quickly it refills during the racing season however I imagine it is quite often. The key question is how much does 2 million litres cover to what depth. Don't forget Sha Tin closes down during the rainy season. -

Yes but it is way short of what Sha Tin uses to have a consistently safe standard of track all year round...I forgot the exact amount but is is many many times more than the capacity of the Ellerslie dam. -

The pond at Ellerslie is about 20% of what Sha tin uses annually...lets see what the summer brings. -

My apologies I was just pointing out that Ellerslie has a water recycling system. Any rain that falls or any excess drainage is recycled to the pond and then used for irrigation. -

They said that it would not make them self-sufficient for irrigation water during long summer dry spells but it would capture 96% of the run off from both rain and irrigation over the full land area. I'm not clear what a mega-tonne has to do with it? -

My lovely wife yelled out during the TV 1 news come inside and watch James. Bruce Sharrock was shameful. They should have had George Simon ,Sir Peter, Alan Jones, Darren Beadman,Chris Waller, Lance O extolling this amazing 33 year old For NZ Sports person of the year.. Which he should win if the pathetic panel of judges were not so culturally biased.. James has won The Loudjnes Jockey of The Year. LYDIA KOE wins. James probably, could not be bothered attending after previous stuff ups from NZ Sports. -

Just interested who you think has been a lot worse? From what i have seen and heard Sharrock is the worst in last 20 years. Made to look good by Entain who dont tolerate incompetence. -
