    • The failure to maintain updated bank details has resulted in Melbourne Cup prizemoney intended for winning trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxon being deposited into the wrong account. Racing Victoria (RV) and the Australian Trainers’ Association are now assisting the Queensland-based trainers after $464,000, which was due to them, was mistakenly transferred into an outdated account.   In another article it said the bank account belonged to a previous associate. Let's hope honesty prevails and they get their money.

    • This was perhaps Bonecrusher's biggest effort to win over At Talaq in the 1987 Australian Cup. Amidst rumours of team riding to beat Bonecrusher somehow like so often he managed to run down Melbourne Cup Winner At Talaq in the final stride to take out his 8th Group 1 victory.
    • The Tancred run was huge ,and against the older horses ..It flattened him for the Derby a week later but he still managed to get up and win that also ..,so courageous..The Air NZ race at Ellerslie during his comeback another one he had no right to win...On that note I disagree with the Gary Stewart comment .He put that horse in some precarious positions and asked him to do the impossible .The fact that the mighty horse still managed those freak performances enhances his greatness even more...the loyalty to Stewart must have been strained on many occassions.

    • Correction - the publication we were thinking of in Magazines and Journals is NZ Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic Review and another is The Graphic - Auckland Central library also have copies of this in the George Grey room - some Archives at the library are in the Basement and viewing by appointment only for those who may share an interest in history.   @janeg, are there any Brand labels on the inside of the Jockey Silks? If so, please upload an image of them as that would be helpful to know who created them and what era and potentially which region of New Zealand - as examples J.T Lewis was a supplier of Jockey Silks in 1930's,  T.J Parker & co  were in Napier in 1920 , Fyfes  was in Kelburn , and Jack Brown was at 33 Broadway, Newmarket in 1924 that was subsequently owned and occupied by the delightful Edna Halloran up til the era of the Borough Council Amalgamations in the 1980's - their home was the last remaining home in the main part of Newmarket and is where Mercury Energy monstrosity building now occupies. She used to keep that property immaculate and had a delightful garden. We wish we had known when Edna was still alive that Jack Brown lived and worked at 33 Broadway, Newmarket, Auckland as that home has history. Does anyone know where it is now? We wonder, does anyone know where these Jockey Silk creators graves are?   What year was there an increase in variety of Silk colours as materials/ fabric were dyed by flower and vegetable dyes just like books had scant colours until the 1970's unless one had access to a variety of materials. Which countries are the silk from? These titbits all add another dimension to the stories behind the silks.   Thanks in advance
    • And "excitement" is the key particularly at the finish of the races. Most of our callers are clear and accurate but don't put the excitement into their calls like Dave Clarkson, Peter Kelly, Reon Murtha, Mark Mcnamara , and Tony Lee did, and that is what is needed to bring new people to the game. If it doesn't sound exciting then why would they bother.
    • Look at this win . On the turn he looked beaten and was going to run last . Amazing run
    • A few to ignore at Trentham today.. R1 Bridal Train R2 Am I Blue R3 Amend R4 To Cap it All R5 Sinhaman R6  Islington  Lass - Manifique R7 Savaglee R8 Sharp N Smart…not a fan but looks well placed. Provence a chance. R9 Chaource - crying out to win a race hopefully today but racing style doesn’t help. Omega Boy unlucky last start. Both our mares running today in Oz.. Kembla R2 Reasonable - she is honest and heavy track should suit, deserves a win. Gold Coast R5 Until Valhalla - only rated 72 against 100+ topweight so surprised they have thrown her in. Stable scratched Semana from this for another race so we will see.
    • We didn't need all these Campervans did we for all those homeless 50,000 cleaners that were permitted into New Zealand? All the references to a phrase Richard Nixon coined in the 1960's of "Fast-Track" is not relevant today and needs to become expired and extinct in New Zealand. Whereas those who are now able to afford to hop on an aeroplane and travel to countries they can't afford to live in should stay where they are and build housing in their own countries to accommodate their own ever expanding populations.   It wasn't that long ago immigration numbers were restricted to no more than 5000 people.   Some of the blame must go back to people like David Ritchwhite who said in a lecture that NZ needs 50,000 Asians to come and work because NZ people are too lazy too work - this is utter nonsense because many young and school aged locals always were able to easily get jobs at the local supermarket prior to L.D Nathan's taken over by Woolworths/ Countdown and those roles have all been taken over by migrants who have a tendency to employ their own nationalities and not employ white people which is unlawful in any country.   As for Fast Track housing, it was the likes of Rodney Hide and other idiots who dumped pokey apartments in Auckland that were not designed to cater for people who are taller or of larger sizes. They all use far greater amounts of Electricity as they lack outdoor areas to dry laundry and lack windows and natural light.   Those who come to New Zealand and complain about having to live in cold damp old wooden houses should all be told that those places were once someone else home in much harsher times and to this day stand the test of time.   Some in Universities who advise Governments, and those in Government, have ripped us all off and failed to think critically and logically and must be held to account.   Enough is enough with the use of the bull dust words "Fast-Track" and  destroying our natural beauty / environment of New Zealand with hideous Wind Turbines - did anybody do an impact study on the flow on impacts to other countries and destruction to our weather - all the recent high speed winds in the peak of summer are obviously from where Wind Turbines are in use in the USA as it flies through the Gulf stream,  what about our Kiwi and other birds rights to fly freely who now have Solar Panels covering land and how about Fire and Rescue services planes flight paths should there be Fires in the areas these Wind Turbines that are the length of a Racecourse home straight in height?
    • Get your facts right fuckwit. One has nothing to do with the other.
    • I'm afraid not. At least not to the extent of doing anything constructive about it.
    • To follow on from what I said at the start of this thread , we have a 400k 3yo race at Trentham today and only 9 runners , how can this be . I honestly believe this issue is only going to get worse . On top of that there is a 1400mtr 65k open at Ellerslie tomorrow with only 4 runners , this is what happens when you sell your best young horses , no good horses left to fill these races . Even the Thorndon , 500k and G1 , is 3 horses short of a full field . But it's not just these races , we have all the races at both those meeting with great stakes in relation to seasons gone past and not one race has a full field , in fact many are well short of capacity . This is a serious situation and is not going to improve without intervention . Can the powers that be not recognize that we have a problem going forward .

It was learning to fly the hard way and trying to figure out how to get back up in the tree as it rolled on it's back looking up to it's concerned parents!   It wouldn't leave us alone and even climbed on our shoe - we have some very funny photos  as well as great memories of this encounter.

    • Using Google images with a copy of each colors may also help provide further information that could lead to names to look up in our NZ Archives PPNZ.
    • @chiknsmack, if you narrow down the time frames of these horse's racing, it should pop up with some information and photos of the horses in action, in Papers Past NZ Archives - look under "Illustrations" and click on the full page of any related articles. We are blessed to have DIA Preserving all our Newspapers, Periodicals and Journals and books and Government discussions courtesy of Governors back in the 1800's and earlier - it's actually a legal requirement to keep a copy.   Sporting Life periodical which has great Racing stories is in the Periodical and Journals section.   Alternatively if anyone has copies of the Flash / Friday Flash and other Racing Publications from this era it may have mention of the colors Jane is trying to locate stories behind - may we assume for an upcoming Racing / Horse related Exhibition - as it appears some of these are from The Depression era/ WW2 era which is a part of everyone's history.   We are sure we can assist @janeg with this and hope that all those whom work in Museums also now know where else they can search.   As an aside are any of the Mackie family still lurking in here as they may also have knowledge or Archives material?   And are any of the families and friends of those who were associated with these horses or colors lurking who are reading this as your assistance would also be appreciated.   cheers.
    • Good morning @KellyAnne Gosh thanks for that information about nomination closing dates for Kings Birthday Honors for this coming June already been closed.   we checked DPMC website as a result of your information. it's quite beyond belief as from recall it used to be at least the end of February not the December prior as that's a good 6 months prior to the Honors List been officially announced.  We wonder who closed off that date, was it King Charles himself and his staff Team, or that of the New Zealand Government? It appears it's because of "all the correspondence to read" which for our own Government seems odd. Perhaps someone in the Media can follow up on this, if there's still any real Investigative Journalists reading this to inform us as to who has made these decisions.
    • Racingoutsider - many thanks for your help. I read widely on foreign armed conflicts.  I had seen RPG on the NZTR site and thought it was Rocket Propelled Grenade.  I erroneously thought that on the NZTR site an RPG would be a suppository for Butch Castles.
