With the yearling sales approaching it’s time for my annual rant about the absurd qualifications for horses to obtain black type. The 2min mile was a thing 30 years ago. Today if a pacer can’t run 1.58 they probably won’t get out of maidens. The NZ Standardbred Breeders association need to update their criteria. Why has no one done this? Black type is so outdated it has effectively ceased to exist.

The surge in infections has drawn comparisons to the early days of the Covid pandemic, when the WHO and Chinese authorities both played down the severity of the virus before it ravaged the world.
