One horse I will never forget regardless of what I watch in the future is Bonecrusher . He is the best I have ever seen . I love watching the old races he competed in and what a gifted rider Gary Stewart was I know many will say Winz or Sunline , but there was just something about Bonecrusher and the way he won his races , just amazing to watch

I keep reading stuff like this; " Unbeaten in the wet and cannot be overlooked." And every time the track condition has been a Good 4. Absolutely pointless and completely irrelevant information. Al really isn't that smart is it. Intelligence my a***. The only part that's accurate is that the information is artificial

The 1947 Auckland Cup win was interesting Gubes. From A Noble Breed by William Mackie There was a senastional ending to the 1947 Auckland Cup. Howe, in a titanic battle with Balgowan and King's Ransom, went past the post with a nose from Balgowan with only a neck to King;s Ransom. But that was not the result which would go down in the history books of the 1947 Cup. In a great finish Howe bore out on Balgowan and King's Ransom soon after turning for home. And the three changed ground slowly so that by the time the finishing post had been reached they were near the outside fence. The stewards called an inquiry. And it was a long one too. Meanwhile Howe, who was previously regraded as a non-stayer, had his dividend posted, as two score for a win and double figures for a place. The inquiry dragged on. The large crowd waited patiently around the birdcage fence. And then the result was announcd -- but not before Magnaform had taken the very next race --- the placings had been altered. Balgowan, ridden by Wally Hooten, first; King's Ransom J Williamson) second; Howe relegayed to third. That victory was to add to a wonderful day for Hooten. A race or two before he had been successful on Tauloch, for the same owner as Balgowan, Mr Stanley Goosman, MP later to be Sir Stanley. As well Hooten kicked home Coonbridge in a division of the Nursey Handicap and gained second on Double Chance in the Queens Plate. Howe was to gain his revenge later at the meeting. Three days following ridden by L J Ellis he captured the Summer Cup from Signal Officer by a head. Then a day later it was King's Ransom's turn. He collected the Auckland Racing Club Handicap from Royal Tan (L J Ellis) indian Gold and Balgowan, who pulled hard in that event. King's Ransom was one of three winners for Williamson that day. The others were Sweet Nymph and Rose Marie, who was trained by A Seifert, the man who later in life went on to select the dual Cup winner Il Tempo. There was more to follow in the Balgowan saga. Mr J H Marshall, the owner of Howe, appealed against the relegation of his horse, first to the distriact committee and then to the appeal judges. Both appeals failed.

Britain is having a bit of winter at the moment and horse racing has been badly hit. Last Saturday, the turf cards were abandoned due to a combination of snow and waterlogging. The problem was the Premier programme of races instigated at the beginning of 2024 meant the three turf cards occupied the schedule between 1pm and 3pm which is set for free to air broadcasting of racing on ITV. A Southwell synthetic card was due to start at 3.45 and with two races divided the start was brought forward to 2.45 but with only three runners declared in the first, ITV called it quits and there was no broadcast racing. This weekend, if anything, the BHA (British Horseracing Authority) has over compensated. The cards at Warwick and Wetherby have already been lost and Kempton inspects this morning (UK) under threat of frost. Meetings have been scheduled at Ffos Las on the turf and Chelmsford and Newcastle on the synthetic. If the thaw arrives in time for Fairyhouse there could be ten live races for the Saturday afternoon armchair racegoers. A fine example of feast following famine. The point for NZTR is if winter grass racing looks under threat, schedule contingency synthetic meetings on Saturday so there should be at least two cards for TAB even if the weather isn’t favourable.

Ya put the Moz on em JJ and have jumped the gun. So they won a race ok at Nelson. They are off and racing for the year winning Race 11 at the end of the day. 'Follow Your Dream' winning with the Orangeman driving to break the drought. (John drove the 2nd placegetter for the Edmonds instead ) -

He did , and here Cardy is, at a sprightly 23 years old. on a day trip out at Clevedon one time. And when you are the Ultimate Champion of the World , you get groomed by the Champion horsemen of NZ. Barry Purdon brushing his back here, and Owen and Mark are 'painting his nails' as the champ prepares for a little Alexandra Park trip to show off to the crowd. He might be quite plain customer, but when you have the Reputation of Awesomeness that Cardy had, you get the best there is 'manning the brushes' in total RESPECT 😁 -

Sticking with Mali Ston in Thirndon. Backed it all summer, gets a decent draw and drops from WFA weight. Weatherly sticks and 18s is value against ....what is honestly some middling NZ milers. Confident it will beat SharpnSmart.... -
I could be wrong, but I think that it was originally a Butch Castles idea. In saying that, I am not saying that they are a bad idea.

Another shocker for followers of the stable today at Nelson, most were well supported but did little today.

I always thought it meant Maidens At Acceptance Time. When BP on trackside used to say "maidens as at", I would think you lazy bugger you can't even say the whole thing.

Yeah was just watching some Nelson trots ,had a few bucks on, Paid $11 here. first thing always look at the Regan Todd runners. Hard to go wrong with him He is going to have a great year with Marketplace in the Derbies and that, Mo'Unga still winning , BorrisOkane, Lakalsa ,Better than Cash and even Kasarani won his maiden by 8 lengths on Wednesday (but didn't pay much accordingly lol 🤣) Regan could race a very Select Special Team . Regan Todd could even double the 45 wins total of last season 2024 if he was selective and say placed a squad of 20 well through the year. Winter holiday with Marketplace to win the QLD Derby in July and put Mo'Unga in the Interdominion should be on the agenda ? 👍
