    • This idea of micro-ownership has been around for years, with both positives and negatives. Great for anyone looking just to have some interest in a horse. I think it's a good idea to get more people involved. I almost did this but then Covid struck and things changed. Get stuck in!
    • I’m surprised there hasn’t been more made of this ownership model. Great value!! One NZ company is currently advertising: Ace High filly, priv purchase $95,000 of which this company took 45% ($43,000).  Then selling 2250 shares @$206 per share.  Values their 45% for 2 years investment at $463,500.  By my reading 48% goes to the admin side of things.  The only thing I’m disappointed about is I didn’t come up with the idea myself !

    • Saturday also sees Dubai World Cup night at Meydan and racing has been put back an hour owing to the small matter of 39c in Dubai. I previewed the Group 1 races earlier in the week. There are also three Group 2 races on the card - the Dubai Gold Cup over 3200m on the grass is the big staying prize. The bookies in the UK are going 9/2 four times suggesting this is wide open. TRAWLERMAN was third in this last year before running KYPRIOS close in the Ascot Gold Cup. His final run was again behind KYPRIOS on Champions Day but with the staying champion not in evidence TRAWLERMAN is top rated and has a huge chance. The other three co-favourites all ran in the £1.2 million Red Sea Handicap at the Saudi Cup meeting in Riyadh. EPIC POET was second, CONTINUOUS ran his best race for ages in third while AL NAYYIR was fifth. They were split by five lengths but EPIC POET was race fit while the other two were coming back after lengthy absences so who knows how it will turn out on Saturday? I'm going to oppose them all with DUBAI FUTURE who improved for the step up to 2850m when winning a Group 3 last time and I think will relish the extra trip and may have too much tactical speed for the proven stayers. The Godolphin Mile on the Dirt looks to concern just three - RAGING TORRENT comes over from America and this will be more to his liking then the 1200m of the Breeders Cup Sprint. RAGING TORRENT took out the Malibu over 1400m on Boxing Day but hasn't run since. His form looks better than that of MUFASA who was well beaten in the Dirt Mile at the Breeders Cup and though he beat WHITE ABARIO at Gulefstream, that was over 1400m which wouldn't have played to the latter's strengths. That leaves the French raider NO LUNCH who slammed the useful TRIBALIST at Chantilly a couple of weeks back - the Meydan Dirt isn't the same as the Chantilly Polytrack but the French horse is improving fast. The UAE Derby is so in name only as it's run over 1950m. The American FLOOD ZONE comes here from a win in a Grade 3 at Aqueduct which doesn't look that strong. The Japanese SHIN FOREVER was runner up in the Saudi Derby to GOLDEN VEKOMA who won the UAE 2000 Guineas beating British raider  HEART OF HONOR and on a line through GOLDEN VEKOMA you can give the Jamie Osborne trained runner a chance but I prefer the proven Dirt form of SHIN FOREVER. Selections (World Cup Night): Dubai Gold Cup - DUBAI FUTURE Godolphin Mile - NO LUNCH Al Quoz Sprint - HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE UAE Derby - SHIN FOREVER Golden Shaheen - STRAIGHT NO CHASER Dubai Turf - ROMANTIC WARRIOR Sheema Classic - SHIN EMPEROR Dubai World Cup - FOREVER YOUNG
    • SURELY ITS GOT TO BE PLAN B The met have been forecasting a weather bomb since Wednesday.
    • Some are more important than others dickhead……🙈
    • Spot on…..
    • Bertolini did okay down here for Rich Hill. But you pose an interesting question. We've now had enough shuttle stallions down here more of them should have won our premierships. Danehill aside I can't actually think off the top of my head of any other NH sires that have even made top 3 in Aus or NZ. The staying piece is a factor. The shuttler Montjeu had some great Derby winners, but mustering a title challenge off stayers in the sprinter-miler dominated Australasian racing scene is tough.  Would be interesting to get some US sires to shuttle more to see if it's the type that's the problem rather than the shuttling.
    • This genuinely is a coup. Wow, well done to Windsor Park.  Can't wait to see how he backs into our Turn-To lines. $30k seems a bargain for a horse of his stature, and his pedigree is more suitable for NZ than any other recent acquisition from the UK.  Very exciting.

    • An eventful afternoon at Aintree of which much more in my subsequent. However, first we have to get the preview for Saturday done.  Three championship races as the undercard to the big race over the National fences. The Mersey Novices Hurdle over 4000m sees Nicky Henderson play an interesting card by running the 4-y-o LULAMBA who is clear top rated, gets 10 lbs in weight from the older geldings and was a fine second in the Triumph to PONIROS. Having won over 3600m at Auteuil, the 4000m here shouldn't hold any fears and it's easy to see why he is 6/5 favourite with the ante post bookie chappies. KAPPA JY PYKE was sixth in the Turners at Cheltenham but beaten a very long way and my idea of an each way play against the favourite is Challow fourth REGENT'S STROLL who was seven lengths behind subsequent Festival winner THE NEW LION at Newbury that day. A subsequent defeat over 3600m at Exeter can be excused and back up to this trip should see him in a more favourable light at 12s he's a good bet against the favourite. Thirteen go in the Liverpool Hurdle over 4850m. TEAHUPOO was no match for BOB OLINGER at Cheltenham but still looks the most likely winner. I prefer last year's winner STRONG LEADER who flopped badly when favourite in the Long Walk and then, after wind surgery, ran okay in the Cleeve. We know the ground and track hold few fears and at 6s he looks a play. I'm worried about HOME BY THE LEE who beat BOB OLINGER at Leopardstown over Christmas and who was taken out of the Stayers at Cheltenham when hampered by the falling CRAMBO. With a clear run he has serious claims. Six go in the Maghull Novices Chase over 3200m. Three of the five who contested the Arkle re-oppose - the winner JANGO BAIE ran with credit in the Manifesto this afternoon. ONLY BY NIGHT was second, L'EAU DU SUD fourth and TOUCH ME NOT well behind in fifth. They went like scalded cats in this and L'EAU DU SUD was in the forefront and weakened unsurprisingly up the hill. ONLY BY NIGHT looked a possible winner only to be run down by JANGO BAIE close home. Aintree is not Cheltenham - there's no punishing final hill and I suspect while they will go hard, they won't go mad and on that basis I think L'EAU DU SUD has a serious chance of reversing the form with ONLY BY NIGHT, who I think will be seen to better effect over 4000m next season. As for the Grand National itself, it's not the race it was. The money has come for last year's winner I AM MAXIMUS who has been backed from 10s to 6s. He's got 7lbs more to carry this year as you might expect and he was beaten about the same distance in this year's Irish Gold Cup as he was in the 2024 renewal. He might be good enough but I'd be surprised.  Willie Mullins has just the six and it wouldn't surprise if two or three of them were involved at the business end. I've got two against the field at bigger prices - BEAUPORT (20s) and THREEUNDERTHRUFIVE (33s). There's also a Grade 2 Bumper and a big field of unexposed types. The Cheltenham Bumper fifth EL CAIROS is a place to start but Joseph O'Brien doesn't have many bumper runners and his LE LABO won on decent ground at Thurles. He's a tentative selection. Selections - Day 3 Mersey Novices Hurdle: REGENT'S STROLL (each way) Liverpool Hurdle: STRONG LEADER Maghull Novices Chase: L'EAU DU SUD Grand National: THREEUNDERTHRUFIVE (each way), BEAUPORT (each way) Bumper: LE LABO
