They stopped that once it became clear to the every day participant how dire things were , Entain is a band aid at present , the question is "will it be ripped off in another 3 1/2 seasons?"
Speaking of the issues around breeding, ATR have used it in their PR spin which seems a disconnect from the harch reality.
Unless the reference to 'our heritage' refers to declines in nearly all facets they are responsible for?
This is so damning.....one thing the storytellers will avoid to stay on the gravy train is facts. Maddening at best!
The reporting standard has declined, with the 2022-23 report missing several vital items contained in its 21-year-older predecessor.
All reporting has declined over the 21 years, and the industry today has less transparency as the numbers have worsened. The TAB ceased publishing its website’s monthly wagering reports almost two years ago, and more recently, the stakeholders no longer receive weekly dashboards for wagering.
I’ll never forget Showgate winning the Timaru Cup the day after winning at Wingatui, if my memory serves me correctly.(Was it the Dunedin Gold Cup)
I don’t care what anyone says, but Showgate was the best that I ever saw and I’ve seen some beauties between NZ and Australia.
And just add fuel to the fire, I never saw a better horse full stop, than Frankel.
Liz 😉
Brian's well researched analysis of NZ racing is spot on as usual. Underlines the fact that NZ racing has been hijacked by the administrator. Doubt if the new CEO of NZTR will stop the decline.
I was lucky enough to see Grey Way have his 50th and 51st wins at Orari and Rangiora.
Triple has obviously never experienced anything like that.
I saw Powley win at Orari. And lots of Bayer Classic winners at Levin.
I suppose if you have never seen that sort of thing you don't miss it.
For Charlie E,
Saw this on Trade Me quite a few years ago now... and just had to buy it.
I can't even remember what I paid for it but it sits nicely on my office wall along with a couple of other horsey photos along with my computer and TV which come in very handy on a Saturday afternoon.!! (sorry couldn't do much about the glare on the pic).
Done by Alister Simpson from Australia who is quite well known for his equine artistry, Google him to have a look at what he does.
It will be very interesting to see a similar report in another 20 years , in fact make that 10 years .
With breeding numbers declining and the number of horses sold out of NZ from sales , trials and race performance , we could have a pool of 200/300 horses added per year to our domestic racing . Dire .
Ever decreasing circles , get what you can while you can , enjoy it while you can .
Racing as we know it is on the decline .
Shame you haven't missed the country circuits, that have atmosphere, crowds, and close up racing action, may be trentham with none of the above may obvious appeal to you more.
Dont let facts in the way of your nonsense
Racing was also washed out in Brisbane after a 123mm rain bomb flooded huge sections of southeast Queensland, with Eagle Farm called off before a race was run.
The venue was on standby to host Saturday's meeting if the Gold Coast was unable to be raced on.
There are only a few horses in anyone's lifetime that are so good they capture the imagination of non-racegoers.
The ones I recall most readily are (before my time!) Phar Lap, Red Rum, Secretariat (GOAT), Bonecrusher, Sunline, Black Caviar, Frankel, Winx.
