Can anyone explain why the rating conditions differ for trotters and pacers in their respective Country Cups at Otaki? The trotters race is open to all but the pacers is restricted to R50 plus and looks unlikely to go ahead with 4 noms. Surely conditions should be adapted for the class of horses likely to attend such a meeting?
Yes. Seems it would have been more informative to punters and other participants to have someone from trackside on hand and possibly live coverage, rather than at Ellerslie and Trentham on the weekend. As it is, they've only just managed to get all the trial videos up at NZTR.
Will be interesting the wash up on her but if she was going that bad why would they bother even trialling her and have Blake ride her as well. Having a look at her she was never striding out well
A pity no one from trackside didn't go there and do a special interview with Blake about all of his rides especially moving ahead for the punters he was on some great triallers and well bred horses.
I think the significant contributor will the 'Karaka Millions syndrome' and the death of the NZ stayer.
Most of the breeding focused on something that can buzz up early and chase the only decent money on offer in NZ (a one day event) and, or, be sold overseas
The Derby is still worth consideration when choosing to spend money on breeding, but beyond that the appeal of having a stayer is to target our low-staked 'glorified Highweights' (known as Wellington, NZ & Auckland Cups)
