Yes very strong result by SOS. Left strong types. Early days but he may become the go to sire to kick off a mare.

Have you seen how many Liquor Licenses have been objected to in Auckland? They have also reduced the number of hours liquor is available for sale at Supermarkets - no liquor sales after 9pm. Remember there's been "spin" to promote Zero Alcohol by a group of University associates in the last 2-3 years... Alcohol is not Alcohol if it's Zero Alcohol. It shows how much The Prohibitionists have been in control of our Governments as "Advisors" creating a Lop-sided society.

Tree Reduction? Don't they get it people like to congregate under the trees and have a picnic at the races? We are mortified with what's happening at Trentham Yet another Racecourse decimated. Do they know anything about Grandstands these people? Have they not woken up to the New Stand at Ellerslie and rough shod work there and it's still covered in part in plastic? Don't break what's not broken.

NZ is lagging way behind with ensuring AI legislation, read the UK and European AI legislation for advanced knowledge. It's always needed Human Agents and is a legal requirements. We had a scan in PPNZ of Artificial intelligence some time ago and there was serious concerns as to using it as far back as the 1950's - 1960's. It's a group of Computer boffins / Science Society tied in with Marvin Minsky, Donald Michie and the 1950's descendents who have imposed AI on to us as they were pushing this s+#& up hill back then. Michie's daughter who is a "psychologist / Behavior Scientist" and overseeing "The Human Behavior Project" has been funded in the majority by IBM since the 1970's to the tune of around £90 million across the course of her career. She's always harping on about "Machine Learning" and one has to question if she's merely lining Bank Of Michie - yes they go back in history, with her spin. Donald used to travel between the UK and USA as did a number of New Zealand "academics" tied in with computers. It pays to see who is operating in the background with there Agendas.

A pile of Hyperbole. I can just see the Committee Room after Cup Day. The idiots downing Gin and Tonics and slapping each other on the back saying how well they have done

If they are reading this, sign me up to take all the AI efforts as a starter, quality check and humanise them -would cost 5/8ths of FA and make a big difference 🙂 -
It was hilarious following their comments on the well-publicised 4-horse race at Ellerslie two Saturday's back. They were completely rewritten during the week - maybe after comments here on RC, who knows? - so they obviously have access to more than one source? Or maybe they got a human in to rewrite that one? Like most, l don't rely on their comments either, but as l only casually follow the sport, never watching mid-week racing outside of the Melbourne Cup etc, this all equates to a lot of Saturday racing - outside of the Premier-type meetings - l don't have a bet on as I'm largely unfamiliar with the horses. Once in a blue moon l might watch a preview show, but there are so many of them - if you include local and Australian, gallops and harness - I'd never stay awake long enough to take it all in 🤣. Therefore the sort of comments they post, largely just expanding out their own data that is available to everybody anyway, adds nothing. and that's annoying. They don't deserve our support. It doesn't take long to work out their comments are 95% rubbish.

Lily had a shocker on Brynderwyn. Had no hope from back there but they did run 1.22 so perhaps not wet enough. He will keep. Coulthard another with not much luck either.

I confess I didn’t but the 1986 Japan Cup form takes me back to the days before the emergence of Japan as a racing superpower. A British 1-2 with JUPITER ISLAND ridden by Pat Eddery held off ALLEZ MILORD ridden by Greville Starkey. Eddery and Starkey were two of a golden period of UK and Irish riders in the 1980s but both gone as are Walter Swinburn and Lester Piggott. Of that period, only Willie Carson and the American Steve Cauthen are still with us - in a way it marked the transition between the traditional jockeys of old and the athletes and media savvy riders of today such as Dettori and currently the likes of William Buick, Oisin Murphy and Tom Marquand.

A few thoughts on the Waverley action which ended up on a Good 3 and it certainly looked nice summer ground. PROCHESTER came from last to first and was just too good in the opener, having run in Listed company last time. Further should help and he relished the quicker turf. DRAMATIC MISS landed the odds in the second - she didn’t impress me but will no doubt come on for the run. The other two fancied fillies both shaped with a lot of promise - TURN IT UP missed the kick as she did at Otaki and was last early before running home well for third but I was left thinking she’d not progressed much from that first run. MISS FIREBALL was well fancied but looked green and got caught up in the scrimmaging in the straight as the winner came through. She’s certainly one for the notebook. JUST CHARLIE needed all of Lily Sutherland’s persuasion to get home in the fifth. The traditional Kiwi mid race slowdown probably didn’t help but what a versatile horse with wins from 1600m to 3000m and fourth in the New Zealand Cup last November. Could he win an Auckland Cup ? Another good day at the office for Mr Grylls who booted home a treble.

Pretty sure this happens to idle accounts as my wife seems to get them every few weeks

I certainly don't rely upon it at all Liz - more a causal glance when I'm looking at times and statistics in case there is a snippet of useful information that I wasn't aware of...... AI frustrates me as I see it in most cases as a corporate cost cutter at the cost of human jobs, and more importantly 'human interaction; which is being continually driven out of our lives. It's stealing a valuable quality of life like a theif in the night.... The younger generations are the one's I feel for most 🥹 What fuels me to comment on Entains useage of it is they claim to be a tech savvy, Customer experience driven company yet their application of AI is the worst I have seen by quite a stretch. Quality control in the delivery of it's product to the customer seriously lacking here..... -
I look at it this way. They want us to take them seriously, but obviously they don't take us seriously. They treat us with contempt whilst expecting us to interact on their terms. They've obviously noticed my recent lack of interest as l've recently been offered a deposit bonus, the first for some time. 'Twas a common thing when Entain first took over, but l haven't seen one in awhile.

Did the mobile vehicle have a big whoopsie as the field was released? -
There's a classic Billy Connolly skit about drinking half full cans at a party only to find they're full of cigarette butts.

Because not everyone is an expert, experienced or punter savvy. Hence they don't really know any better and are being fed hogswash. I have a good friend who is a lawyer and he said they are treading on thin ice and it's bordering on fraudulent giving garbage and or false information to the customer who is spending their hard earned sometimes on the crap comments That is the issue, and I can't see how people can't see this. It's just not right.

SUCCESSFUL CUP CARNIVAL The three days of the 2025 NZCIS Wellington Cup carnival were a success both on and off the track, and we would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who attended one of the meetings on January 4, 11 and 18. The relocation of the TAB Telegraph to January 4 saw a stellar edition of the race, while the Harcourts Thorndon Mile benefitted from being the headline act on a chilly January 11. NZCIS Wellington Cup Day itself saw a large and well-behaved crowd in attendance, with Peking Duk bringing the house down to conclude the festivities. Thanks to the Grand Tour Racing Festival for supplying the entertainment and the marquee that graced the site of the old Public Stand. One of the most important metrics used to measure performance is betting turnover, and the three days of the carnival saw an increase of $1.6 million over 2024 figures. On-course turnover for NZCIS Wellington Cup Day was more than 40% ahead of last season, and is the highest since the COVID epidemic. We’ll look to build on this in the coming months, with the $1 million Al Basti Equiworld Dubai New Zealand Oaks the highlight of the autumn calendar on March 22. AWAPUNI TRACK UPDATE Since the completion of the final stage of the physical work at Awapuni in December, the prime objective has been to ensure the new sand slits have a good covering of grass. Once this is achieved, horses will be able to utilise the course for trot and canter work and the NZ Thoroughbred Racing “return to racing” protocols initiated. With the “grow in” period being closely monitored by the NZ Sports Turf Institute there is good progress being made. However both NZTR and RACE representatives are in agreement that it is unlikely that the track will be ready for horse traffic next month, as there are still areas of the sand slits that have not taken with the initial seeding. These have required some further seeding work in the past week. Other than this the track is good condition, with recent subsoiling work proving to be particularly fruitful. However as past experience has shown, trying to fast track the turf and the racing surface only causes issues further down the track. Taking a conservative approach is the only option and we are determined that racing will not recommence until the track is ready for it. And while further delays to the reopening of Awapuni are a tough ask for our valued sponsors, members and other stakeholders, making an early decision to move the March 2 and March 29 meetings to Trentham allows trainers to adequately plan their campaigns for the 2YO and 3YO horses that are the features of these two racedays. Programming changes are as follows:- Sunday 2 March Little Avondale Stud Lowland Stakes Day to RACE Trentham Saturday 29 March Courtesy Ford Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes Day to RACE Trentham Saturday 5 April Manawatu Breeders Stakes Day to Wanganui At this stage the ANZAC Day meeting is still programmed for Awapuni, and if the weather is favourable then this could be achievable. We will provide further updates as the process evolves and in the meantime we thank everyone for their patience and understanding. TRENTHAM TRACK UPDATE With six meetings in six weeks under the belt, the Trentham turf is now undergoing some well-deserved rehabilitation. The earlier than usual finish to the Cup Carnival has enabled Track Manager Jamie Phillips to begin a programme of mowing off, drill-seeding, verti-draining and fertilising that will see the track ready for three weekends of action in March:- Sunday 2 March Little Avondale Stud Lowland Stakes Day Saturday 22 March Al Basti Equiworld Dubai NZ Oaks Day Saturday 29 March Courtesy Ford Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes Day We can see the benefits of some of the work that was undertaken last winter, with the home turn irrigation coverage more satisfactory via a wider spread, and the tree-reduction program at the HIBS end of the course to be continued. An additional raceday has also been added in June, with the remainder of the season programme looking as follows: Saturday 10 May, Saturday 7 June, Saturday 28 June. We will work through these changes to minimise the impact on sponsors and members, so stay tuned for further information. This particularly applies to the March 8 raceday, which will be moving to New Plymouth.
