So True Ned , Swayzee and Leap to Fame are just too good for our horses . I would have loved to have seen DSD on the leaders back just to see how it would have panned out . He had no show from the start but finished really well in a fast time

Well said Ripples and to the perennial wingers why don't you try and view the interview with Chris Waller at the sales he was super complementary at the way NZ racing was being steered , long term planning by people who know what they are doing , he thought it was fantastic How's the Ellerslie track performing BRILLIANTLY but have we seen any of the wingers who bagged the track last season acknowledging they were wrong and this will keep getting better and will develop, if not already there into the best track NZ has ever seen ,the horses seem to glide over it , it's the big high profile meetings that build an industry , racing will keep improving because of the current management are thinking big . Ellerslie swapped the hill for a top class track what a great move -

Thought it was a terrific race as was the whole nights racing but am a bit surprised with some of the back slapping regarding the kiwi horses. The 2 in the cup got great draws and had to do next to nothing during the running but were well beaten by the worst draws with a lot done during the running. I would almost cut off an arm to have a horse run a place in such a great race so it’s no mean feat but I don’t think I have seen such a wide gap between the aussies and nz’s top paces and trotters

Formats for Weeks 1-6: Week 1 - Pairs format Week 2 - Knockout format Week 3 - Trifecta format Week 4 - LGL format Week 5 - Pairs format Week 6 - Knockout format All of the play-off rounds will use the same format - either the Pairs format or the Knockout format. To be decided by a poll closer to the time. For seeding purposes points ties after 6 rounds will be decided in same way as recent comps - by dropping lowest scoring week, then if need be second lowest scoring week, etc... In the play-offs, in the unlikely event of a tied score the tie will be split using seedings. -

Ok, here's how this 10 week individual comp will work. The knockout rounds might seem a little convoluted but trust me I understand it and it will work fine. Drawn a tiny bit of inspiration from the new Champions League format. Good to mix it up a bit. Weeks 1-6 - like the recent multi-format comps, weekly comps using different formats, where you earn points depending on how many entrants you finished ahead of in that week. At the end of the 6 weeks total points earned will determine your seeding for the play-offs. Week 7 - Round 1 of play-offs The top 8 seeds will get the week off - they progress direct to Round 2 of play-offs. Seeds 9-24 will compete against each other to secure a better route through the play-offs - top 8 out of these 16 get an easier path. Seeds 25 down will compete for four "lucky loser " spots. Those outside of the 4 lucky losers are eliminated Week 8 - Round 2 of play-offs Part A - seeds 1-8 and the top 8 from the previous week's 9-24 will compete. The top 8 finishers from this 16 will progress directly to the Grand Final in Week 10. The other 8 will go into a repechage in Round 3 (Week 9) Part B - the bottom 8 from the previous week's 9-24 and the four lucky losers will compete. The top 4 from this group will progress to Round 3 (Week 9). The others are eliminated. Week 9 - Round 3 of play-offs The 8 losers from Part A in Round 2 and the 4 winners from Part B in Round 2 will compete. The top 4 will progress to the Grand Final. The others are eliminated. Week 10 - Grand Final The top 8 from Part A - Round 2 and the top 4 from Round 3 will compete in the Grand Final. -
Don’t want to be a killjoy and spoil the negative vibe in this post but I see a lot more positives than negatives since Entain got involved. I am especially surprised about some of the comments around Champions Day. I was at Karaka Night the vibe was awesome, better than anything else I have experienced in NZ apart form perhaps Kumara, Kaikoura and Trot and Gallop cups in Christchurch. We now have Australian involvement in these meetings which surely can only boost turnovers. Looking ahead to Auck Cup on Champions Day I see Ciaron Maher has two nominated and Chris Waller also has one nominated and all at the top of the early market. Without these significant cash injections into stake money there would be no Aussie involvement. Im not suggesting everything is rosy, far from it as personally I am saddened by the demise of many country race tracks, particularly those on East Coast NI where a lot of my teenage pocket money was spent. Bring on 8 March I say

The Canadians have answered…..here’s a list of things they won’t be buying…… 7 hr 24 min ago "We don’t want to have this fight, but we won’t lose it," candidate for Canadian prime minister says on tariffs From CNN’s Michael Rios Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s former finance minister who is running to replace Justin Trudeau as prime minister, told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria that her country is determined to stand up for itself after US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. “We don’t want to have this fight, but we are not going to lose it,” she said Sunday. Freeland called the tariffs a “terrible” idea and a “lose-lose” situation that will end up hurting Americans since they depend on Canada for many basic goods. “The president has decided now to make gas in the United States more expensive. He’s decided to make groceries in the United States more expensive. And our retaliation is going to cost Americans jobs. That is completely ridiculous. We do not want to do this,” she said. Freeland also said Canadian citizens have been so hurt and angered that some have already started to boycott American goods. “Regular Canadians across the country are coming up with ways to stand for Canada, to fight for Canada, to defend Canada, but mostly to say to our American neighbors: ‘Guys, just cut it out,’” Freeland said. Asked whether Canada would start looking for new markets and trading partners, Freeland said the country would prefer to continue working with the US but insisted the relationship should remain mutually beneficial. “We are happy to work together. But it’s got to be a two-way street,” she said. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2025/02/list-of-products-from-the-united-states-subject-to-25-per-cent-tariffs-effective-february-4-2025.html

Gore's Top 6 R1 IMPERATIVE - Campbell hops aboard, and the dam has won 8 in this distance range. Stepping up after an eye-catching 6th, this one’s definitely worth a look. 2nd $1.70, led turn, run down late, will be better for the run. R2 CHUPALLA - Dam won the Listed Great Easter Stakes. Has only had 4 runs and is still figuring out the racing game. Showed a determined run last start and looks to be coming to hand. 2nd $3.30. big run from near last, next up. R3 THE RADIANT ONE - A super type I rated at 7.2, third best for the meeting. Loves the track and should win here. Sat outside leader, never settled, looked like needed run. R4 INTERCEPT - No Freddie Time in this one, so this horse can win. Slow out, never like the good 4 track at all, forget run. R5 XRATED - A former North Islander who has everything needed to win today. Looks like a super show is in store. 1st $3.70 $1.60, Simply too good. R8 FREDDIE TIME - Looks to be a star in the making. Just wins. Held up turn, will be better for the run in a field, watch. Roughies: R1 MISTER GOLDIE - Had a tough trip 3-wide last time out in stronger company. This is easier, so watch for improvement. Struggled to make ground, R5 JIBBITY - Better than shown recently. Was spotted making up ground last time and, while it would prefer firmer ground, is worth a big watch at odds. Wide and posted on speed, then 3 back, out 400m, nice late run, watch next up. R6 SEFTON - Had no run in the home straight last time out. Will surprise a few here, for sure. 1st $9.00 $3.80, 3-4 wide the trip, amazing win. R9 IN VEGAS - Big drop back in class and looks good to win from 4 at odds 1st $14.00 $4.00, strong late run.... too good. R10 FOREIGN AFFAIR - Shouldn’t be paying $5, Campbell rides and has a good draw. Definitely one to keep an eye on. 3rd $1.40, headed late
