Very dry in Auckland this week with only random showers so likely firm track Great for swimming and boating and getting out in the fresh air Dry all around. Alas we did notice over the holiday break Mr J Key had someone watering the berm - great sole of grass there...for grazing...and insufficient area to have trials or would be a great alternative option to hold Avondale Trials ;) Perhaps there's a shortage of water in Auckland with all the "Slum-ber housing" that's been built for the 100,000 new migrants the economists think we should have - darn they forgot about watering our Racecourses and Water for the animals, and for those people where they will go when they die with a lack of room at the Inn Cemeteries, where to hang washing etc Maybe it's all those Heat pumps on Air con using Auckland's water? Do the local school children still use the Racecourse for Sports events, running, etc? @Insider

Personally I think they should close those venues and concentrate more on Cambridge , Manawatu . HRNZ should do more to help with trainers that travel to make it worth their while going to other meetings

The sale is looking a bit sick in the early stages, in the first 25 lots there have been 12 horses passed, 2 withdrawn and 11 sales, lets hope things improve for the vendors over the next 105 lots.

Quick observation - 12 runners over the two races........9 by Aussie based stallions......3 by NZ based stallions. Without delving into the sale results it would be safe to say that there would be a lot of dollars running around. Obviously the Fillies race is the iconic feature race, but from memory the colts race usually light on numbers with only 5 runners.

Yes, and another patient drive by Kate Gath. The horse is thriving and best if driven patiently as he needs time to get warmed up, balanced and work his way into the race. He can outstay most horses if driven this way. He's also getting better with age. Some horses also seem to race better with a female driver. Don't Stop Dreaming is a top liner and he will win a top race soon. -

Meeting News Avondale Trials Cancelled Due to the track not being in a suitable state (not enough grass cover) these trials scheduled for Tuesday 18 February have been cancelled. NZTR are reviewing trial opportunities in the Northern region. Iv'e long had a soft spot for Avondale being the underdog yet continuing to provide a service for trials, so this is a little disappointing. Why is there poor grass cover? Can they not afford the water for irrigation?
