I think the Aotearoa Classic is a bit of a rare case in that it is worth $1 million but still only a listed race because it has only recently been introduced. The Pattern Committee said it's likely to attain group status which I imagine will mean the winner will get a more accurate rating in the future, but since the race was created out of nothing it still has to have a few editions of the race to earn group status.

So much for Insider promising us this would be short and quick. I was expecting to be in and out and gone in a flash. -

As I mentioned above, Orchestral didn't get any extra points for winning the $1m 4yo race. In fact, Orchestral's rating peaked at 103 after winning the Derby. Since then she has won over $1.2m and actually dropped one rating point to 102. Points are of course academic if a horse doesn't contest any handicaps. There seems to be an acceptance that some horses don't get rerated for winning age group or WFA races. At the same time Whangaehu got 4 points for running third in the Dyke, and now at 100 points can't contest the Auckland Cup as he would be uncompetitive. Interestingly, there is only one horse rated higher than 88 in the Auckland Cup and that is the Aussie Interpretation at 96 who proved uncompetitive in the Wgtn Cup with top weight. The Aussies might learn after this that there is little point sending handy horses over to contest our big handicaps as they will be weighted out of them. The Auckland Cup of course has traditionally been a race for horses that sneak in with a light weight. -

I have several times posted that Entain will fall apart, and it is going to be awful for NZ racing. You can't keep throwing money at Stakes etc and expect things will magically blossom. I don't see anything better for the customer ?? .. Great for owners, trainers etc. But how do they keep sustaining the $$ .. it will run out eventually, then what ??

Yes absolutely, there is never a plan B and it seems tracks need to be Orchestrated to suit. And then gamble that the weather plays ball

It's a messy situation, I don't know the ins and outs. But so many people I know like me are asking the pretty simple question .. why the hell is this race at Auckland. Obviously there are reasons why, but it still doesn't make it right, it simply seems wrong. Particular when Otaki runs on the same day.

Racingoutsider, I can't do that without doing a lot of work and I am not doing that. I think that you are missing the point. Continue to read my other postings and you will see where I am coming from.

Well then Michael, can you tell me this? Will the rating of the Otaki Maori WFA Classic [from an International Ratings point of view/Pattern Committee] be based on the Ratings prior to the running or after the running as obviously they could be quite different, especially if Orchestral wins. Based on the result I doubt El Vencedor will be rated any higher if he wins. Belclare would be, in my opinion. Konasana would definitely get a hike or is everything computer driven which is what I am reading into what others are saying rather than it being subjective? P.S. I am stuffing the shortness of my thread, which I based on the theory, that no one would know the answer, but everyone seems to or at least have an opinion 😂
