The shame of it is that some very very good horses have won the Avondale guineas and Cup. And I loved seeing EV do the demo job today - reminds me or Sir Slick a little, Kawi perhaps? Getting the mix of tradition with modern needs is not easy, certainly. I feel the balance is out of whack at the moment. -
Although I am mainly a thoroughbred person we also have an interest in harness racing and in fact have a horse with the Dunns. Often we watch the harness from Brisbane but I get so frustrated with the style of the commentator as he tries to make something pretty low key, exciting, and for that I give him credit. However tonight with the Drivers Championship (or whatever it's called) I was hoping for something more conservative, yet enthusiastic, even polished, but no. Am I out of order?

Probably worth remembering that this was a preliminary grand final for a lot of them today. Nobody was going to be given a gut buster upside down run as a lead in to the big day in March.

Let's be clear it ISN'T Entain that is throwing the money at stakes aside from providing the funding. The NZB Kiwi is the brainchild of NZTR and NZ Bloodstock. Entain may be funding the marketing and promotion of the race but arguably all of Racing benefits from that. Not to mention that most of the KiwiB funding is coming from the slot buyers. As for the other Novelty Races and stakes largesse that is being driven by NZTR. -

2nd one is down as well. Down the track 😂. worked too hard to lead. and stopped bad. The horse that Pete trains with his wife won it though lol. and driven by the 21 year old Angus Garrard. He has a big Lead in the Comp now after getting 2nd in the first race. He is close to 1000 race wins already , and only 21 years old. (been driving since 17) he could get more career wins than Grant Dixon at that rate lol. -

No if it was a soft or heavy track then there would of been no issue...the issue was it was an ice rink rather than a racetrack. -

Lady I asked about the coffee closing early, said "it was open this morning, but it's shut now".... Houlahan " But the races started at 1 and go past 5..." Big smile in reply "yes, and it's shut now..." Ok, thank you. Excellent. I mean, it is a small thing in the big picture, but illustrative. Mini me had chips and then a pie (growing lad). I had...water. Backed two winners, sucked at the comp but enjoyed seeing EV and the third horse in the guineas.....Ah well. -

And end up where...5 deep on a limb...give it a rest...and how many winners did you ride in your career...I am guessing it must have been a few???? -
Im laughing at your amazing ability to twist every single thing into Entains fault. WDs post about racing losing its tradition started well before Entain were in NZ but you did your best as usual to try draw a link anyway. We can all fret about what happens if the money dries up, sure. But we all 100% know where we would be right now without their money. Just curious, was the sky outage today Entains fault too? Ah dont answer that. Unlike yourself I would rather stay on the original topic as I believe its a good one.

I commented on the curious tempo of NZ racing when I was there. Almost every race seemed to be like a dance - quick, slow, slow, quick, quick, slow. The quick start followed by the dropping of anchors followed by a sprint off the home turn. I wonder if it’s because of the short straights - if you have a 750m home straight you can’t really stack them up on the bend and outpace them. Jockeys like George Rooke and Kevin Stott come from other jurisdictions where the tempo of races is more variable and they can both adapt and change their style to suit how it’s done here but why don’t more NZ jockeys try to mix it up a bit? Second observation - races are run the way they are because most horses are running over distances which are too short. They have no turn of foot when the pace quickens. Others pull their race away.

Previous leader Houlahan drew a blank today (foreshadowed perhaps with the "fold like a deckchair" comment), while the scorer flukes a stint in top place - somebody should audit the scores. In the words of some of our most well known riders and trainers, they went too slow up front and I could not catch up..... -
As long as that hasn't flattened him, he's probably home. Nothing else has run to that level unless the times run by the filly from the south are factual. It hard to believe that the form for the Kiwi comes from Caulfield and Invercargill and not Ellerslie!

Pak Star .. by laughing, you have proven to me that you're part of the problem. Try understanding that it's the smaller guys or gals like me that are getting poorer service since Entain took over. I knew you would think that's funny

That's the biggest load of B.S .. I have been having issues since December, there customer service is run by AI robots. I have been promised credits twice within 24 hours .. never came. I get email replies from people saying " Hi my name is Zylynn or Lucilyn " What a croc, agree with the post it's crap

Yep, again Entain can throw all they want at stakes etc. I have said many times it won't fix racing in this country. Everything is a mess, finance should be going into basics, like sorting the shambles of our racetracks for one. Turning the TAB website into an AI farce. How about recognizing and looking after the customer. What happens when the money runs out and Entain jumps ship ???

Couldn’t agree more, the stars of the show are the horses closely followed by the trainers, owners, strappers and everyone else involved. Apart from the All Blacks nz in my opinion doesn’t honour traditions the way they should. The ranfurly shield has all but been relegated to the dust heap in the chase for the dollar. So many of the great longstanding races aren’t celebrated and valued instead they have been replaced by manufactured fads. Where is nz’s Melbourne cup or Bathurst or Sydney to Hobart, sports and events that New Zealand has a long and rich history in. Racing is full of some amazing people and fascinating stories, a sport where the underdog can be the star of the show but I feel here that seems to be ignored not celebrated

Am hoping he can win the first 2 races shortly and be right Back in contention. Jamaican Rock in race 2 was super impressive last start in 1.52 and won by 4 lengths. so that would be good for a repeat lol 😅
