The second dam is also the second dam of the horse that won that BC Classic. And she's a half sister to Zenno Rob Roy, who shuttled to NZ in 2006 before being prevented from returning by the EI outbreak in NSW in 2017 that was blamed on Japanese horses in quarantine there (not Zenno Rob Roy nor Jungle Pocket, who both shuttled to NZ in 2006; they were to be brought in via Melbourne rather than Sydney). That's another reason I love to see the success Rich Hill are having; they were early to recognise the quality of the Japanese thoroughbred and its suitability for our conditions, and took a gamble on it. There were some returns with Jungle Pocket (he sired an Oaks winner and a couple of other stakeswinners from four crops) and Zenno Rob Roy (Zennista was 2nd in an Oaks and won half a dozen stakes races to Gr. 3 level from his only crop), and they're having joy now with Satono Aladdin. -

Up in trip, fifth run first prep, not the grand final. Not a bet. You don't want to be making your move leaving the front straight at Ellerslie (uphill and around a bend). You could argue for a move between the 1700 (or more realistically the 1500) and the 1000, but Willydoit specifically had started to settle better from the 1700 to the 1100. From the 1100 when he was three wide and pulling you could argue he should've been let slide, but at that point you're coming to the 1000 where they start quickening and are approaching the bend, which again is a place you don't particularly want to be making your move. Add in the things I mentioned above and the ride makes sense. If you wanted to be super nitpicky, at the 500 Masa lets Hinekaha go ahead of him and then tries to make a run outside her. Either don't wait for her and make your run around her earlier, or let her go and then cut underneath her to save ground into the straight and follow a similar line to Oceana Dream. But that's a split second decision towards the end of the race, so I'm never gonna crucify a jockey for getting that wrong. -
I would agree with Oscar . It may not have been the strongest of fields but the way he won was impressive . Any horse who works that hard and keeps the pedal down until the finish is special , remembering as well that's not really his go , he is better doing nothing early and getting a sit

I can't believe they balloted your namesake " The Janitor " His run was enormous coming from where he did . I reckon he should have been put ahead of " We Walk by Faith on both their runs . I really hope you make the field you are the smokie

The winner was third in the Breeders Cup Classic. Japan won four of the six thoroughbred races - there can be no doubt they are the dominant force in world racing.

That is also BS know it all, they used to slice the track after racing so it never got hard, that from what I see never happens these days....that was how they broke the surface up...how many tracks have you managed???? Why that does not happen these days unless there is an issue when its too late god only knows...suits in offices comes to mind...And another thing how can track managers monitor the tracks if 95% dont even live on the track anymore???? -
My impression is that Sports betting has been increasing with the increased number of options available, plus significant advertising, but have not seen any figures since the demise of the old TAB. In the 23/24 Harness season, HRNZ received $27.911m from Imported & Sports Profit, compared to the previous years $18.196m without Entain, this is 25% higher than the profit distribution received from Domestic racing, so Sport is the largest contributor to Harness Racings revenue. Because all the money is coming from the Entain guarantee, it complicates analysis.

That worked when the soil had structure because any rain that occurred after the "drenching" would still soak in and would even do so on raceday. Now that the soil structure is stuffed you have to keep the soil moisture wetter to enable water to soak in. The reason is because there is no structure the top layer hardens very quickly and drains poorly so a relatively small amount of water will create a slippery layer i.e. a pan. The only way to break that pan up is by mechanical means which temporarily fixes the problem but ultimately makes it worse. -

The problem is all the old time track managers that I have spoken to all used to drench the track Sunday Monday or even into Tuesday then leave it the hell alone for the rest of the week...but now we have these office experts who say it must be a track that is on the soft side of good...thats what causes ice skating rinks when you have old compacted facilities to work with...dummies have you learnt by now what you are doing is not working...how long must this keep going on...🙄 -

We Walk By Faith was asked to do plenty early and it is not his style, he needs driven patiently. Nevertheless, it was still a weak run so horse not right. Perhaps he didn't travel well, strange stable, virus/infection? Give him a good break. He'll keep. -

The track rating is often done at 7am or later if the meeting starts later but before scratching time. For example the track rating was done at 6:55am for Otaki yesterday. The first race was at 12:40pm - nearly 6 hours later. However there is doesn't appear to be any consistency between the time the track is rated, how the rating is determined, whether a moisture meter or penetrometer is used, whether the track is galloped on or not prior to the rating, or even if the Stipes have checked that protocols were followed. I wouldn't take any notice of the track ratings especially at a couple of the favoured tracks. Then there is the irrigation policy - Ellerslie has a special needs case and appears to be able to irrigate during the night and early hours of race day morning. -
You may well be correct but seriously why does a track have to be easy for most of the day , does that mean those connections with horses that require a firm track have to hope like hell their race is programmed as a later race . Bloody stupid if that is the case . When did firm track tracing become an evil thing .
