I thought Keayang Chucky (love that name) was impressive old mate. He fooled me cos I thought they would go back at the start and flash home. But straight to front and held them all off and a few ticks of a new record. if he had been pushed a new record would have been set. The horse is getting better with age like the old time trotters. I'd love to see Keayang Chucky at Addington, the track would suit him. It's great to see a trotter like him in action. Beautiful to watch. -

It was great to see Don't Stop Dreaming get a win, Iraklis mate. He's had no luck all season and a great patient drive from Kate Gath. DSD is a better horse driven patiently like that, he can power home like he did tonight. I hope Gath keeps the drive, or Sarah O'Reilly could suit him? Drive him more patiently! He isn't finished yet old mate! -
There is a fair bit of negativity on this site (quite a bit of it justified at times). But what an awesome day at Ellerslie yesterday! Massive stakes, fabulous racing. The track played beautifully They won from in front (Alabama) back and wide (Trav), back and rail....etc When Aus horses and jocks are coming here NZ is doing something right. I thought the WFA battle was epic (even though I backed La C) Bring on next year!!

Super run off an interrupted prep...he is going to make a decent horse Pete you were right. -
I see yesterdays Kings Plate was won in a time of 1.10.46, arguably 2 of our best sprinters finished first and second. Alabama Lass ran her last 600 in 34.50 , in the Kiwi Damask Rose ran her last 600 in 35.20.Horses of that caliber are capable of much faster times , is the Ellerslie surface responsible for the slower times? In the Gold Trail stakes at Hawkes Bay Alabama Lass won in 1 09.41 last 600 in 33.55 , Damask Rose ran third with last 600 in 33.17. The track was a good 4 on that day.

Might explain why he was slow out, but surely not the ride 100 wide around the field?
-
Did have blinkers on first time, whether that had an affect who knows.
-
And the overhead camera shot showed the amount of interference he caused when reversing back through the field as others were beginning to make their run. Plenty is just how much. Surely some time on the sidelines to think about it?

I wouldn't want to "bait you" (or were you baiting me?) But perhaps they should have gone with Checkmate first? The good draw and the soft trip helped too. JMHO. -
I attended Ellerslie yesterday, fortunate to have a share in a runner in the NZB Kiwi. I have been to Flemington, Royal Randwick and NZs top courses but I felt yesterday had a real buzz, some of it maybe a little overdone, (Wayne Brown landing in a helicopter at the winning post) but all in all it was a fantastic day. I had heard Chris Wallers comment that you need to make your big days an event, well I think ARC achieved that, I was'nt there for the after party but they were starting to rock later in the day. I say well done ARC and I hope this Champions Day becomes one of our iconic racedays, the support from trainers, jockeys and owners seemed unanamous and as we heard from George yesterday, many times, Bring it on!

Yes, even in the big wide open spaces of Menangle, in a race like this year's Miracle Mile (largely an extremely even field made even more even after the draw) gaps didn't come easy. Too some extent that's due to drivers keeping others in a pocket of course, but obviously now we can add Don Hugo as a live chance whenever he lines up against the big two, Swayzee and Leap To Fame. How long can the brothers keep going?

It was great to see an owner trainer , Peter Jeffcoat (from Opaki), doing well with Don Pedro. Unlucky not get a bit closer to the money. Unlike in the old days there not many like Peter around these days, owning and training just one horse. I don't know Peter but I recognise the name Jeffcoat, so I'm presuming he is from that well known racing family.
