    • I thought so to. Trainer has said they are expecting quite a bit of rain there tomorrow which won't worry them. Too much rain might worry a few others though.
    • After all other track infrastructure news is not that good is it? Central Region Meeting Changes - April   Saturday 12 April – Now Trentham   The current renovation at Otaki is progressing well, given weather conditions. However, advice that NZTR has received from Otaki and the Regional Track Advisor is to transfer the upcoming 12 April meeting.   The 12 April meeting originally scheduled for Otaki will now be held by RACE at Trentham Racecourse.   Racing will return to Otaki on 21 April.   Sunday 13 April – Tauherenikau Removed from Calendar   As previously advised, Tauherenikau have gone into a renovation period after the abandonment of last Sunday’s meeting.   The 13 April raceday originally scheduled for Tauherenikau has now been deleted. Races will instead be added to the meetings at Waverley (10 April) and Trentham (12 April).   These race additions will be advised early next week.
    • Sure is. What would the positive take on it be?
    • Following our abandonment on 22 February 2025, we immediately carried out an in-depth renovation of our course proper. The track is recovering well and grass growth is excellent. However, on closer inspection alongside Jase Fulford (Auckland Thoroughbred Racing), Bryce Mildon (Hawke’s Bay Racing Club) and Jamie Phillips (Wellington Racing Club) all agreed that the grass is still immature and lacks an adequate root structure. Sadly therefore, our track will not be ready for the upcoming race day on Saturday 12 April 2025. Consequently we, alongside New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR), have decided to move this race day to Trentham Racecourse, and it will also become a RACE Incorporated meeting (not an OMRC day). This is about to be communicated through NZTR’s channels as well. We had a tight timeframe to complete the renovation work, being 7 weeks, whereas ideally these projects would require 8 or 9. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't quite have the track ready in time. While it is never ideal to forfeit a race day, we will not further jeopardize the already struggling industry and put its participants in potential danger on a track that isn’t quite ready for racing. This also means we will have to reschedule our 2025 Member's Brunch once again (details below).   We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused, but we will be ready for our next scheduled race day on Easter Monday 21 April 2025 and look forward to hosting you on site then.

    • Following the abandonment of the Taupo Trials on Tuesday, NZTR acknowledges the frustration caused and accepts the outcome did not meet industry expectations.     No images? Click here NZTR Statement on Taupō Trials Abandonment and Investigation Following the abandonment of the Taupo Trials on Tuesday, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) acknowledges the frustration caused and accepts the outcome did not meet industry expectations. NZTR worked with Taupō Racing Club to identify what went wrong on the day, with findings to inform improved processes going forward. Taupō Racing Club President Terry Campbell said, “The Club would like to apologise to the racing industry for the cancellation of Tuesday’s trials.”  “We have identified the issues and will ensure they are addressed ahead of any future meetings,” he said.  The assessment found that the Track Manager, who is relatively inexperienced, did not receive the level of support and oversight needed to prepare the track. NZTR also identified gaps in its own processes, which failed to provide the Club with adequate operational guidance in the lead-up to the meeting. Issues with rail placement, grass length, and irrigation planning contributed to the decision to abandon. These areas require specialist knowledge and closer coordination between Clubs and NZTR. While it is encouraging to see new Racecourse Managers coming into the system, consistent national training and induction processes are lacking. The current reliance on individual Clubs to manage onboarding has led to varying standards. To address this, NZTR will: Increase the involvement of Regional Track Advisors in mentoring new Racecourse Managers; Provide Advisors with more time, tools, and resources to support Clubs on-site; Establish a working group of Club representatives, Regional Advisors and NZTR staff to strengthen national processes and share best practices. NZTR Chief Operating Officer Darin Balcombe said, “New Racecourse Managers are difficult to find, and we must provide them with stronger induction, training, and support systems.”  “Preparing track surfaces for racing is a specialised skill that comes only with experience, support and proper training,” he said.  NZTR accepts that earlier involvement may have avoided the Taupō outcome. Work is already underway to strengthen support, oversight and accountability across the tracks and infrastructure network. NZTR is actively undertaking a full formal review with Taupō Racing Club and Track Advisors and will share the findings as soon as possible.
    • Yes but the first proposal was sent to GRNZ over 4yrs ago long before there was any talk of the greyhound industry possibly being closed down. Yet they still went a head with a straight track in the CD at Wanganui where the population of greyhounds racing is a he'll of a lot less than the population in the Canterbury  area it would have made more sense to put it where the biggest population is would you not think
