quote today from Darrin Balcombe - plans for track maintenance at Trentham now back on the "public agenda" which sounds positive (compared to some recent scares around building safety, longevity etc.)
"With Hastings racecourse also out of commission, and Trentham set to undergo renovations in the near future, Balcombe said New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing have partnered with several provincial clubs to ensure they have the means to handle additional race meetings year-round.
“We are making sure every track undergoes a full renovation period,” Balcombe said. “Knowing that Hastings and Trentham were going to be out in the short-term, we did put irrigation in at Waverley and Hawera to ensure those tracks can be used because previously without the irrigation they were only available through the winter months.
Well after listening to Mr Peter's last night I think it is time to take down the signs and burn the tee shirts and start doing the right thing by the dogs and start finding them home or better still get the owners to look after them. The dogs have tried there best for you all over the years now its time for them to be repaid with a happy retirement. Just because the game is coming to an end don't turn your backs on them. I still care for my 10 greyhounds years after I left the game
It's great to hear the TA have finally figured that out after a couple of decades or so saying that money needs to go to stakes ahead of track infrastructure and the majority of our best trainers and horses have left the country.
Skymax ran a bold race in the Oaks for 4th. Great effort.
Interestingly, she has now had 20 starts - half of them in Black Type races, the Grp 1 Oaks 4th the best stake of her career thus far, a 3rd in the Eulogy next best. 20 starts for just one (Maiden) win, plenty of honest placed efforts, a lot of 4th-8th finishes. I hope she stays sound.
Boshier in the job for 10yrs. Steps down and comes out with complaints of Wha Ora. NZ Health intransigence. Fat lot of goos when you are gone.
Sounds like a suitable job for JA
He knew absolutely nothing about Racing, but sadly that sort of knowledge is no-longer required.
Of course he knew nothing about posting letters or foreign affairs either. Strange old world.
