Great field for the mile at Cambridge . So much speed on the front . My favorite Mo'unga drew a shocker at 8 . Will be a great race all the same and they are going to run time . Also Evangelist at Addington looks a good bet for top two

I bet the South Island stable is not making a cent for the owners...does anybody know how many winners they have had in the SI this year with horses trained there???? -
What a miserable pack of tosspots you are, NZTR ...a 'prize fund' of $5k for overall Club of the Year, which is laughably small and inappropriate reward to recognise sustained excellence against nationwide competition. I challenge you and your colleagyes, Mr Ballesty, to reconsider this pathetic sum and make it at least $50k for Club of the Year. And if you don't, won't or 'can't', have the good grace to explain why on this forum.

maybe more 'leading' trainers are going down the 'more is better' route. It's all income/turnover of course, whether the horsey wins a race or three or none. Not many win more than 5; and not many pay back their owners in anything other than anticipation/excitement/ thrill of racing and sometimes winning. The dream stays alive while the horse is training and racing well. At least there's more justification for being an owner, now that the stakes are better - who knows for how long?

A Principal told me a couple of years ago they like to keep 100 horses in work at any given time which means they have a considerable pool to draw from. They now have a more extensive stable in the south plus Cranbourne. Stable earnings are pretty good but I'd like to know just how many horses actually contribute to the big money. Any 1-4 win horses are unlikely to pay their way. That's the case anywhere but I would venture costs are higher at TA.

The NZ figure doesn't include Te Akau's Cranbourne stable and I believe those boxes are filling up quickly. -
knowing Max, and his past history of being prematurely (and/or allegedly) 'eliminated' from these Comps, he is quite likely to put in an entry on Saturday anyway.

Fake hole , this hole is damp and still round after a hoof landed in it , NAH -
Of the trotters, I'm pretty sure I'm Ready Jet will make the Aussie contingent 5 strong, Keeyang Chucky (still in the betting) sounds extremely doubtful, so there's one more slot up for grabs there.

It was suggested last night on The Box Seat that Ohoka Connor and Chase A Dream would be the last two pacers, but l reckon one of them should sub their runner with Swayzee to avoid paddling around at the back just to collect the starting money. That's a lot less than they've paid for their slot!! Actually, Swayzee and Mo'unga would look good in that line up. The aforementioned pair are completely out of form at this level, Swayzee and Mo'unga are right on it.

It will be a strong field, Merlin, DSD, Don Hugo, Leap To Fame and Republican Party. Wow!! I read that Tact Macloud was withdrawn as they are planning to prep him for 2025 NZ Trotting Cup. I don't know if he's still in Australia or back with Mark Jones in Canterbury? -
Hayden Cullen intimated last night that DSD would be there. Tact McLeod was on the list then came out, so I'm assuming there was a reason for that and he won't go back in now.

Crocetti to tackle top Australian sprinters in The Quokka By Trackside.co.nz Crocetti will carry the hopes of the Kiwi sprinting ranks in Perth next month as the Trackside NZ / Perth Racing slot runner in the A$5 million KIA Quokka (1200m). The winner of nine of his 14 career starts, Crocetti’s connections accepted the invitation from Entain New Zealand - the operators of New Zealand’s Trackside television network and the TAB and betcha betting brands - after he claimed the NZ$300,000 bonus for winning the Sport Nation NZ Champion Sprint Series over the summer. Crocetti’s owner and co-breeder Daniel Nakhle leapt at the opportunity to take his pride and joy to Western Australia for a date with sprinting destiny at Ascot Racecourse on 26 April. “This horse has already provided us with so much fun and excitement in his career,” Nakhle said. “To take it to the next level with this trip to Perth alongside the Trackside NZ and Perth Racing teams is another memorable step along a pretty amazing journey.” Trained by Danny Walker and Arron Tata at Byerley Park near Karaka, Crocetti won his first seven races before returning to perform at the top level over summer, securing placings in the Gr.3 Concorde Stakes (1200m) and the Gr.3 Haunui Farm Kings Plate (1200m) and a fourth in the Listed Haunui Farms Counties Bowl (1100m). He showed his brilliance at the perfect time in the Gr.1 Sistema Railway (1200m), with that win and the Kings Plate placing ensuring his Champion Sprint Series title. Entain ANZ’s Chief Media Officer Chris Haigh said securing Crocetti, who has proven himself as New Zealand’s leading sprinter, will bring plenty of story angles and punter interest to the trip to Western Australia. “Crocetti has really captured the New Zealand public’s imagination in his career, and we’ve loved telling his and Daniel’s story along the way,” Chris Haigh said. “I know the Trackside team is pumped that we’ll be taking on The Quokka with a horse with such a following.” Perth Racing chief executive James Oldring said the Western Australia racing public is looking forward to welcoming Crocetti and Trackside NZ to Perth. “We’ve watched the New Zealand racing with interest over the summer, and to get the Champion Sprint Series winner as the Kiwi representative is a fantastic result,” Oldring said. "We saw great wagering results on The KIA Quokka last year in New Zealand through our slot partnership with Trackside NZ, and with a boom sprinter like Crocetti, we expect that Kiwi interest in racing in Perth will continue to grow.” New Zealand turnover on the 2024 edition of The KIA Quokka, with Waitak running in the Trackside Media slot, more than doubled the turnover of the 2023 inaugural edition. Last year’s Quokka was also the highest turnover race on New Zealand’s TAB that day (19 April). Crocetti is a $15 chance in The KIA Quokka market with New Zealand’s TAB and betcha betting platforms.
