Friday's Aintree entries have come through and once again another four championship races. The Mildmay Novices Chase over 5000m often has plenty of thrills and spills as the staying novices go a stride beyond their comfort zone and don't treat the fences with enough respect. A number of double declarations with the Manifesto on Thursday but my eye is drawn to DANCING CITY who was sixth in the Brown Advisory and CALDWELL POTTER, who was a hugely impressive winner of the Grade 2 Golden Miller and looked like a horse finally realising the potential he had shown as a hurdler a couple of seasons back. The Top Novices Hurdle over 3250m looks a race for those swerved Cheltenham. TRIPOLI FLYER has had a very good campaign with three wins, the last in the Grade 2 Dovecote at Kempton but while Kempton is a sharp right handed track, Aintree is a sharp left handed track. It might make no difference. ROMEO COOLIO was third in the Supreme at Cheltenham and ran for me as though a shorter trip and sharper track would suit. The Melling Chase over 4000m has JONBON, who was no match for MARINE NATIONALE in the Champion Chase at Cheltenham, back over a course and distance where he looked very good last year. I think this is his optimum trip and he's going to take a lot of beating but Willie Mullins has entered both EL FABIOLO and GAELIC WARRIOR and I wouldn't count out LIBBERTY HUNTER who was still travelling well when falling two out in the Champion Chase. The Sefton Novices Hurdle over 4850m looks another for the Cheltenham also-rans but mainly for those who swerved the Albert Bartlett. CALIFRET EN VOL is one of those French-bred types with which Nicky Henderson does so well. He seems to love decent ground and while his wins at Kempton and in the Sidney Banks at Huntingdon confirm he likes sharp right handed tracks, we'll have to see how he manages going the other way.

Pride of Jenni has thrown the towel in numerous times in her career. Don't forget she has only won 9 from 37. 3 Grp 1's and 2 Grp 2's. What sticks in peoples memories is a couple of races where she has streeted them from the start and hung on. -
One of nicest, down to earth, genuine people you’ll ever meet. Fun day at Flemington today even though we didn’t get the chocolates. How good Alabama for the Kiwis?! 😎

Good to see LIGHT INFANTRY MAN come back to form, He was a very good horse up here when trained by David Simcock - as a 3-y-o, ran midfield in the English 2000 Guineas and then finished second in both the Jean Prat and the Jacques Le Marois (on the second occasion just a neck behind the champion mare INSPIRAL). Came to Australia in late 2022 and ran a decent sixth in the Golden Slipper and went back to Europe for a 4-y-o campaign and mixed it with the very best. On his second run, he was seventh in the Lockinge then ran second in the Ispahan, third in the Queen Anne and third in the Marois (a bit further behind INSPIRAL). The truth was he didn't win much but was a strong contender in some serious mile races. I'm pleased he's won another Group 1 in Australia after the Northerly at the Aussie Ascot and maybe 2000m is what he needs now. Could be a Cox Plate contender later in the year?

There was a change to the 3rd placing in R8 from Trentham which wasn't initially noticed and only showed up - l think - in the last race of today's comp. Paid $2.80 a place, so that'd be the 28 extra points? (He says, not having been a part of this comp, so unsure of the exact format 🤣 )

She got a few more starts in her I'm sure, may have had an off day today, the ole war horse trotter Take After Me had his 400th start at 14yrs of age and finished a good 3rd, might not have reached the dizzy heights as some, but his longevity unbelievable.
