    • Meydan hosts the climax to the Carnival - World Cup Night - on Saturday and some of the best horses in the world will be present. No less than five thoroughbred Group 1 races on the card. The Al Quoz Sprint over 1200m on the grass has eleven runners and a strong Japanese challenge. Favourite however is BELIEVING who was second in the Nunthorpe and the Flying Five last season and ended up third in the Abbaye. That's serious form and if he's ready (and George Boughey's were running well at Doncaster last Saturday) he must go close for all you just wonder if 1000m is more his trip. With no KA YING RISING in his way, James MacDonald has a big chance on the Hong Kong contender HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE who was third to the aforementioned KA YING RISING over 1400m last time. The straight 1200m might be ideal. WEST ACRE's rating has gone from 95 to 114 after two impressive wins at 1000m on this course but this is a bigger test. REGIONAL won the 2023 Haydock Park Sprint but didn't really build on that last year. AUDIENCE is a fascinating contender - he won the Lockinge and the Lennox last season but to see him over 1200m is an interesting ploy from connections - he's not short of speed but against proven sprinters, I'm not convinced. The Golden Shaheen over 1200m on the Dirt is a race with little European interest. The Breeders Cup Sprint winner STRAIGHT NO CHASER was far too good in Riyadh and could well follow up but he now takes on TUZ who won this last year and is unbeaten in four and the undisputed local champion. This could be one of the big match-ups of the meeting and it's hard to choose between them. The Dubai Turf over 1800m sees the return of ROMANTIC WARRIOR, who is the best turf horse in the world and was just beaten in that epic duel in Riyadh by FOREVER YOUNG in the Saudi Cup. Back on turf and over an ideal distance, it's hard to see what's going to beat the Hong Kong champion. LIBERTY ISLAND chased home ROMANTIC WARRIOR in the Hong Kong Cup last December and was third in last year's Sheema Classic but I can't see any reason why the form should be overturned. The Sheema Classic over 2400m sees the return of the French gelding CALANDAGAN who was hugely impressive in the King Edward VII at Ascot and got to within a length of CITY OF TROY in the Juddmonte at York (the subsequent Arc winner, BLUESTOCKING, was eight lengths further back). At Ascot in the Champion Stakes, however, CALANDAGAN didn't seem happy on the soft ground and went down to the shock winner ANMAAT. Back to 2400m on decent ground, CALANDAGAN is 6/4 to beat last year's winner, the globe trotting REBEL'S ROMANCE who in his last two runs has won both the Breeders Cup Turf and a million pound race in Bahrain. However, there's also SHIN EMPEROR to consider - the Japanese runner was third in the Irish Champion, second in the Japan Cup and last time won in Riyadh. GIAVELLOTTO, for me, isn't up to this and while CALANDAGAN looks the one, I've had a small bet on SHIN EMPEROR to have his day in the sun at this level. The big race is the Dubai World Cup worth a stupendous £5.6 million to the winner. The dominance of Japan in world horse racing is all too obvious as FOREVER YOUNG, third in the Breeders Cup Classic and winner of that epic Saudi Cup battle with ROMANTIC WARRIOR (and while it's early to call that the race of the year, it's going to take a lot of beating) is 1/2 to continue his winning ways. USHBA TESORO was over ten lengths behind FOREVER YOUNG in Riyadh so why should he reverse places? The best of the locals is IMPERIAL EMPEROR and if FOREVER YOUNG doesn't take to the Meydan Dirt, IMPERIAL EMPEROR is the obvious beneficiary but on all known form faces an impossible task. I'll comment more on these wonderful races later in the week.

    • The pace quickens this week as we approach a really busy Saturday with the final day of the Grand National meeting and Dubai World Cup night on the same day for the first time - the Meydan meeting having been moved due to the end of Ramadan. Starting with the entries for the final day at Aintree and despite the presence of the National itself over 7050m which remains the longest race in the schedule up here - just 50m longer than the Midlands National at Uttoxeter.  The supporting card has three Grade 1 Championship races and a Grade 2 Bumper. The Mersey Novices Hurdle over 4000m has a big entry of 28. Triumph Hurdle runner up LULAMBA has been entered and is clear top rated but I think he'll stick to the 4-y-o race on Thursday. DIVA LUNA was third in the Mares Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham but this looks an open heat with most of the entries having bypassed Prestbury Park. The Liverpool Hurdle over 4850m is the championship race here for the staying hurdles and TEAHUPOO, who was beaten at Cheltenham by BOB OLINGER, is 6/4 to make amends. Willie Mullins has his usual strong hand including the lightly raced KITZBUHEL who could be anything. STRONG LEADER won this last year and won the Grade 2 at Newbury at the end of November after which he was made 11/8 favourite for the Long Walk at Ascot but flopped badly after which he had another round of wind surgery. He was fourth in the Cleeve but back over his favoured ground and track must be respected.  ALTOBELLI looks very interesting at 40/1 each way - he's won two decent handicaps over 4000m at Ascot on his last two outings and while he has a fair bit to find with some of these is clearly improving. The Maghull Novices Chase over 3200m will be fast and furious. ONLY BY NIGHT and L'EAU DU SUD were second and fourth in the Arkle at Cheltenham bit over this flatter track I think the places will be reversed.
    • What the hell are you banging on about now?  I thought this was a no  nonsense thread about Alabama Lass?
    • Poor field, but she won well and placing them well what a good trainer is supposed to do. Len Goodman - I try to keep myself in the best of company and my horses in the worst of company.
    • I bet my mate a drink that Hokey would find a Pedo after I told him he scours the internet looking for the Lgbtq drag queen's transgenders and pedophile's and you never let me down. My mate said only sickos would look for them.
    • Not sure he is 100% correct on his summation the weather was terrible but the sale of Rosehill has been put on hold as its a very emotive and divisive issue.
    • So it's more about internal Racing NSW politics than the actual weather? It did strike me as a little strange Gai was so vehement about it - I know nothing about the track and its drainage. The Aussie tracks seem able to deal with amounts of rain which would cause us problems in the UK. I doubt any UK turf track could handle 230mm in 24 hours - even Newmarket - and there have been instances when a track reporting Good to Firm gets hit by a thunderstorm just before racing and is forced to abandon due to waterlogging.
    • Currently working at the Dunn Barn at Pukekohe - he drove last week at Cambridge - Kowalski
    • Good question…. Follow fields…. Hasn’t driven in weeks….. multiple stable runners…. Promising driver from limited opportunities…..
