Do you know who the manufacturer/ providers are of the machines and it's software? What country are they based in? Is it Altenar who are Romanian and Malta? Is there an available Privacy Impact Assessment report available for intended users? Isn't it recommended not to use shared computer systems???? Do they have cameras in there system like the ones at places like Woolworths supermarkets? Self service of course escalated in the 1960's era as prior to that it was always a "shop keeper" who served the customers.

I agree, but my point is that you could back Horse A and then put your entire return on Horse B, so it's only convenience. However, a lot of punters believe multis get them better odds. For example - if you're happy to take a $20 multi onto a horse paying $5s into a horse paying $2, you are much better off just putting $100 on the horse paying $2 and taking out the risk of the $5 shot not winning. -
If Trumps so worried about all the illegal drugs coming into his country then he might help the situation by clamping down on the user's as well as the pushers,, but you never know, maybe he may put tarrrifs on drugs as well😀

What a joke this is. While Trump plays chicken the chinese are getting on with sourcing new markets… Hong KongCNN — Chinese leader Xi Jinping has said his nation is “not afraid,” in his first public comments on the escalating trade war with the United States, as Beijing raised tariffs on US goods to 125%. The tariff hike is the latest in a tit-for-tat battle between the world’s two largest economies, after Trump raised tariffs on China to 145%. However, China has indicated it does not intend to go higher than 125%, saying it would be meaningless to engage in further escalation. “The successive imposition of excessively high tariffs on China by the US has become nothing more than a numbers game, with no real economic significance,” a spokesperson for China’s Commerce Ministry said in a statement Friday. “It merely further exposes the US practice of weaponizing tariffs as a tool of bullying and coercion, turning itself into a joke,” the spokesperson added. The trade war between the world’s two economic superpowers has tanked international markets and fueled fears of a global recession. As other countries scrambled to negotiate with Trump, China has stood firm against what it calls “unilateral bullying” by the US. Speaking to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing on Friday before the announcement of the new levies, Xi said: “There are no winners in a trade war, and going against the world will only lead to self-isolation.” Hong KongCNN — Chinese leader Xi Jinping has said his nation is “not afraid,” in his first public comments on the escalating trade war with the United States, as Beijing raised tariffs on US goods to 125%. The trade war between the world’s two economic superpowers has tanked international markets and fueled fears of a global recession. As other countries scrambled to negotiate with Trump, China has stood firm against what it calls “unilateral bullying” by the US. Speaking to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing on Friday before the announcement of the new levies, Xi said: “There are no winners in a trade war, and going against the world will only lead to self-isolation.” Diplomatic offensive CNN reported on Thursday that Trump is waiting for Xi to reach out – and has told his team that the US will not make the first move; but Beijing has repeatedly refused to arrange a leader-level phone call. Rather than calling Trump to negotiate tariffs, Xi has instead launched a week of high-stakes diplomacy with other trade partners to push back against the escalating trade war. His Friday meeting with Spain’s Sanchez comes ahead of a multi-nation tour next week of Southeast Asia – a region heavily targeted by Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs before they were put on pause. Xi will visit Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia in his first foreign trip this year, according to China’s Foreign Ministry. Though such high-level meetings typically take weeks or even months to plan, the timing of the announcements – just days after the two economic superpowers imposed record-high tariffs on each other – underscores Xi’s message that China is not backing down. The Chinese leader is seeking to capitalize on the turmoil sparked by Trump’s tariff whiplash to deepen ties with nations from Asia to Europe, casting China as a reliable partner and defender of global trade. RELATED ARTICLEThe US-China trade escalation has no end in sight. Here’s why Beijing’s not backing down Sanchez, who is on his third visit to China in two years, is likely the first in a flurry of European leaders heading to Beijing amid the global economic uncertainty unleashed by Trump. During their meeting, Xi told Sanchez that the world is undergoing accelerated changes unseen in a century. “The more complex and volatile the international landscape becomes, the more important it is to maintain sound and stable relations between China and Spain,” Xi said, vowing to work together in areas such as new energy, high-tech manufacturing and smart cities. The Chinese leader also extended an olive branch to the European Union, calling it “an important pole in a multipolar world” and stressed that China has always “clearly supported” the group. In a thinly-veiled jab at the US, Xi also called for China and the EU – which together account for more than one third of the world economy – to work together to defend international rules and order. “China and the EU should fulfill their international responsibilities, jointly uphold the trend of economic globalization and the global trade environment, and work together to oppose unilateral bullying,” Xi said, using a phrase that Beijing often used to criticize US tariffs. ‘Shared future’ with neighbors Strengthening strategic ties with its neighbors is high on China’s diplomatic agenda. Vietnam and Cambodia were among the countries hardest hit by Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs – set at 46% and 49% respectively before the pause. Both countries have seen a surge in investment from Chinese and international businesses in recent years as they move supply chains out of China to take advantage of lower labor costs and hedge against US levies. This week, Xi called for China to build a “shared future with neighboring countries,” while speaking at a high-profile Communist Party work conference on peripheral diplomacy. An official statement from the two-day meeting called for China to “strengthen cooperation on industrial and supply chains” with nearby Asian nations. China’s relations with its neighbors were “at their best since modern times, while also entering a critical phase in which regional dynamics and global changes are becoming deeply interconnected,” said the statement.

Excellent thread Bruce, and also agree - my take is if the TAB (and presenters) are "pushing it", stay away. All of their fixed odds markets should have the market data with it... and as you highlight, at least with Tote betting you can reasonably easily find the take out (and it is static, doesn't change race by race). SRM and Fixed Odds Exotics should not be in anyone's long term punting strategy. -
I understand that as a betting strategy. But there is no difference in value, better or worse, in taking a multi. Its convenience & excitement more than anything, with higher risk and higher reward.

Most punters have no understanding of value. To most value is just a runner paying more than $2o or so. You'd be doing well to find one thing at value in a race let alone multiple value propositions to combine into one bet. These same race multis are absolute gold for the TAB which is why they put so much effort into ramming them down your throat all day long, day after day after day.

Great post! I have always advised people to stay away from SRM and multis in general. If punters got better odds when taking a multi, I'd recommend them, but they don't. Why waste a potential winning bet by culminating your original stake + profit onto another bet? It's not a long-term winning strategy, but punters often wrongly feel like they're getting better value with a multi. -

Same Race Multis (SRMs) - What do they really pay? Same Race Multis sound like a great option, especially given the TAB says you can get more value and maximise your odds. I mean they would never misrepresent the truth, otherwise the commerce commission would be after them and the government would not give them a monopoly... So you standard multiple runner bets are obviously your Quinellas, Trifectas and First 4s. All the money is comingled into a pool and the TAB takes out a fixed percentage. Call it what you want, statutory deduction, take out rate, rake, vig etc. If you place $1 on a random quinella bet, on average you will get $0.79 back. (1/0.79 = a 126.6% market) $1 on a random Trifecta or First 4, on average you will get $0.75 back. (1/0.75 = a 133.3% market) Interestingly on SRMs (or any fixed odds) there is no statutory rate, so the TAB can effectively take what they want... which is as little as possible. Furthermore they are not required to disclose the amount they are taking, like pokies or casinos do. With numerous runners in a field the maths can get a little labour intensive so no one would be bothered to work it out. Well, I am bothered, so here goes. Take a 13 horse field. If you select all the top Top 2 combinations you can replicate every combination of quinella and see the corresponding fixed odds. There are 78 possible quinella combinations. Divide each of these into 1 and add them up and you get the amount that TAB is returning to punters. The equivalent to a Quinella bet using SRM fixed odds returns $0.616 per $1.00. (1/0.616 = a 162.3% market) For the same 13 horse field; If you select all the top Top 3 combinations you can replicate every combination of Trifecta and see the corresponding fixed odds. There are 286 possible Trifecta combinations. Divide each of these into 1 and add them up and you get the amount that TAB is returning to punters. The equivalent to a Trifecta bet using SRM fixed odds returns $0.534 per $1.00. (1/0.534 = a 187.3% market) And finally, with the same 13 horse race; If you select all the top Top 4 combinations you can replicate every combination of a First 4 and see the corresponding odds. There are 715 possible First 4 combinations. Divide each of these into 1 and add them up and you get the amount that TAB is returning to punters. The equivalent to a First 4 bet using SRM fixed odds returns $0.484 per $1.00. (1/0.484 = a 206.5% market) And the odds get worse and worse, the bigger the field is. TAB/Entain - DISCLOSE HOW MUCH YOU ARE TAKING ON EACH MARKET!!! Punters, have a good day on the punt today. Stay away from SRMs and always do due diligence. -

I think he thought the hotpot in the first was going to run straight past but the leader was never headed. Six northern horses in a lower grade six horse field is a bit strange. Obviously a severe shortage of 2yos in the CD. -
