The morning-line favorite First Mission hasn't been to the winner's circle in almost a year, but if his recent works are any indication, he will be in peak form Saturday. View the full article -

"We must continue to look elsewhere" ... Then look at ... foalmare.com ... my new website launched today, a revisiting of the work (and I think confirmation of the findings) of Harold Hampton and Clive Harper. ... "the most rational pedigree analyst of the 20th century, the American Joe Estes" Estes did a fine line in ridicule, but I think he did not contribute much himself. Estes said all pedigrees are much the same after the first two generations and you can learn nothing beyond the first two.

Tapeta is the superior surface for sure. I am/was so frustrated with the experts (the people who made the decision for NZ) when they went with Polytrack. At the time, I asked one of them, why not Tapeta and the answer was because; “Polytrack are based in Australia and they know what they are doing, they are successful over there” Yeah right!

After a nice day in Auckland today - even saw some afternoon sunshine - I can report a rather large electrical storm has been rolling through the area (I'm not very far from Alexandra Park in a straight line) since 11.30pm tonight. It's now about 12.15am. Rain hasn't actually hit where i live yet, but if the rainfall is relative to the spectacular light show and the rumble of the thunder, then it's gunna pour down. It may just be the bank manager looking for the ATC treasurer, and if it is, he's NOT happy 🤣 Let's just hope it clears so they can race later on tonight 👍 UPDATE; I take it back. Rain hasn't actually hit come in from a different direction to usual. It's extremely wet outside 🙁

Well I will be interested to see how trainers and owners react to having their lesser ability horses having to compete against much higher rated horses . I'm like you , don't bet on them , find them boring and uninspiring . My understanding is that many trainers won't race their horses on them , for many tho it is used as a port of last resort for some horses .

The use of the word "interesting" - in both cases - is an interesting choice of words 🤣 I've had just one bet on an AWT, since they started, and that after it was tipped out on some racing show. I think it was actually in a multi, but I don't want to go there 🤣 It was successful however, but with generally small fields and uninspiring racing I'm yet to get excited by AWTs since watching a few meetings early on. Am I right that some trainers just don't run their charges on AWTs at all?

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. Half way there. The recommendation is in play, just need to get it across the line. https://selectcommittees.parliament.nz/v/6/2a903d46-cdfa-4727-a67a-08dd7c7e7d71 -
You'd have to be blind to not see that Timaru is a better track than both Riccarton and Ashburton.

What I find interesting going into the new season of A/W racing is that at both Cambridge and Awapuni are going to be taking open entry nominations over the 4 distances run at each course . Is this an admission that field sizes have been poor and so now they will just make fields up to maximum numbers regardless of ratings , so we could have R75s running against R55 horses , or even mdns taking on winning horses , some winners of multiple races . But Riccarton is still running races by Ratings , is that simply because they have reduced grass track opportunities in the SI ? The NI situation will be an interesting watch .

I can put it this way. Based on their initial predictions I wouldn't be here typing this response now, and I don't intend going anywhere soon so I can't complain too much. But it's one of those "untreatable" ones, where they can actually give you various treatments but eventually each one fails and they move on to something else. But eventually they run out, so I guess the hope is that I keep reacting well to each one and that each one lasts as long as possible. Basically - so they say - each time the cancer returns it is more aggressive and each successive medication supposedly lasts for a lesser period of time. I'm currently on the third one, although side effects meant I didn't last long on the second drug. The current third one seems pretty decent, so fingers crossed it sees out 2025!! At least I got to see Leap To Fame in the flesh. I'd love to go to ChCh to see his proposed return in November, but every month is like a year these days so I can't plan that far ahead right now 🤣

I won't complain. I won a race at that meeting a bit over a year ago. Though we might have stuffed the horse in the process. -
I see England has the finals nights of All Weather tracks tonight. Newcastle 1st race$NZ200,000, Next for 4, $NZ300,00, Last 2 $350,000. No shying away from synthetic tracks there. Big fields. And Lingfield all races $NZ100,000. Are Tapeta tracks the answer? And what would it cost to convert NZ synthetic to that?

Looking through tomorrow night, Addington & Alexandra Park, the race cards are BOTH split roughly half each between TS1 & TS2. What a pain. Thanks Easter 🤣
