There were 4 Late Scratching's for this meeting, 2 on Vets advise, and 2 "due to track conditions" The two scratched due to track conditions received no stand down period, due to to being classified  as "Exceptional Circumstances", the weather was described as Showery and the track as Slushy for the duration of the meeting. However, the trainer of "Archie" was fined $400 for "Late scratching denying a runner a start", the race had a full field of 14 runners with 3 emergency's. If you chose to describe the track condition as being an " Exceptional Circumstance ", how can you fine the Trainer for not predicting this by scratching deadline? The horse had of course been entered to race on the grass originally, which I would have thought would have been a mitigating factor also.

Interesting comments in article by your old mate Mick that the first Group` 1 of new season be in Auckland as to horse population up there and it's so much easier for them to travel to. Other 2 HB Group 1 days be Awapuni. Just shows how much CD needs this venue operating or all CD Group races will disappear.
