He would never have gone past RP who ran his last 800 in .54.5, a second faster than Moana. I think RP doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. Mo’unga & RP have met 9 times the score is 7 to 2 in terms of RP finishing in front of Mo’unga. Mo’unga is extra good though and it’s only a matter of time until he gets some group 1’s.

Not sure what point you are trying to make here. Are you suggesting we as viewers should expect someone else to go put their life at risk for our entertainment, just because the risk hasnt yet had the disaster we know could happen? If the jockeys want to, sure. But then you get a situation like KM night 2024 where they may be guided by $$$ and opportunity, so you need the stewards also having a say.

Given it was an early quaddie with traditionally a smaller pool, and a favourite winning the first race, I would be expecting bugger all for 8% but hard to say without knowing the variables described by members above.

A classic misread from yours truly! Unlucky Ivan Monty - yes you are - is that a good or bad thing? 😋 -
I am waiting to see when he races left handed if he still has the spreaders on . Hopefully not , as they really make it hard for a horse wearing those 😀 I think he was wearing them in the cup hard to tell . Look at him in this race . I bet Robbie wishes he could have run that again . Should have finished at least third had he pushed out and followed RP around the turn

Spot on Monty. If you take a large number of runners, or the field, in the first leg and the favourite wins, then you are immediately behind the 8 ball (and out of the money in this instance). -
The way I read it, ivanthegreat spent $8 on a percentage Quaddie. I think the amount back would depend on the number of horses chosen in the first leg. P.S. Am I responding to a Curnow?

I agree. Might be ok where the rail is but if you move the rail out, you flatten the curve and sharpen the corner. -
So true PS . You would have thought they had discretion to late scratch MM . Punters just did their money cold . Not fair 😪

The most basic thing to ascertain - is the bend geometrically correct. Easily done with a couple of measuring tapes tied together. i watched that race on the TV and the horses seemed to do a tight swerve as the entered the straight. If there is a flat spot in an arc there will be a hard spot. So wide was the horse that slipped it would have been going flat out to keep up.

Apparently not much has been learnt. The track was tested but evidently not with large groups of horses that would use a greater width of the course. That the rail was moved 6 metres suggests that the course was not ready anyway, or parts below standard are acceptable? Years ago, I lived in Palmerston North, not far from the N.Z. Turf Institute. Nowadays, there is the N.Z. Sports Turf Institute (don't know its breeding) and farmers have been growing grass in N.Z. for more than 200 years. Somebody, somewhere, must know something. -
