    • So they've now - after just one race - brought forward a planned renovation, after they'd only just reopened following 19 months closed for renovation?  They were shutting down again in 3 weeks anyway? Two renovations with only 3 weeks between the end of one and the beginning of the other? I don't understand.
    • Awapuni Racecourse Track Update A statement from RACE Inc. General Manager Brad Taylor In the wake of the abandoned race meeting at Awapuni Racecourse on Friday, RACE, in conjunction with New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR), has made the decision to bring forward the planned renovation of the track, with work to commence immediately rather than following the James Bull Rangitikei Gold Cup meeting on May 17. The race meeting was abandoned after Race 1 due to safety concerns arising from a slip on the newly renovated Awapuni track. Brad Taylor, RACE’s General Manager of Racing, expressed the Club’s disappointment at the situation. “We are extremely disappointed with the abandonment of Friday’s race meeting,” Taylor said. “We understand the frustration and disappointment from participants, stakeholders, and fans. However, the safety of both horses and jockeys is paramount, and under the circumstances, we fully support the decision to abandon the meeting.” Taylor explained that the incident was most likely caused by the compaction of the surface and how quickly the track dried between the initial moisture reading at 6:30am and Race 1 at 1:14pm. The moisture reading at 6:30am showed an average of 38%, which was within the target range of 38–40%. After 5mm of irrigation on Wednesday night and 18mm of rain earlier in the week, readings taken on Thursday were 44% at 8:30am and 42% at 3:30pm. Based on these readings, and with a forecast low of 4 degrees, a joint decision was made not to irrigate on Thursday night. Following the abandonment, moisture readings taken in the area of the slip ranged between 29% and 33%. The rail for Friday’s meeting had been moved out six metres, a decision made based on advice from track specialists engaged during the 19-month renovation process and grow in process. “There were two reasons for putting the rail out six metres,” Taylor said. “Firstly, after Verti-Draining, a small area near the 600m mark required repair after a rock was brought to the surface. Secondly, the trials held on April 8 with 13mm of rain caused significant damage to the renovated track leading to the decision to put the rail at 6 metres.” Taylor added that the area where the slip occurred had been subjected to significant use during reconstruction, including a gallop session involving 28 horses on Tuesday morning in preparation for Friday’s scheduled meeting. Following a meeting yesterday between the Club, NZTR, Racing Integrity Board (RIB) representatives, and track specialists Liam O’Keeffe and Callum Brown, an immediate plan of action has been put in place to address the compaction issues. “We are grateful for the advice from the experts as we continue to refine the preparation processes for this new track surface, which differs considerably from the previous Awapuni track,” Taylor said. RACE will now commence renovation works immediately, involving coring, verti-draining, and adding additional sand to the surface — actions originally scheduled after May 17. RACE sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and greatly appreciates the support and understanding of the racing community. The Club remains focused and committed to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes and remains confident in the future of the renovated Awapuni track.

    • An up and coming trainer to watch is Tawhiti Hina from New Plymouth. Trained a double last Sunday at Waverley. Appears to only have a small team but they are going really well at the moment. Has just the one running today at Wanganui, Palmarow, in race 7 #12 and is a last start winner too.
    • After Friday's fiasco at Awapuni what a pleasure it was to see Te Rapa and Riccarton put on good tracks. I think we have some good young sprinters. Super Photon in the open sprint.  Yes. Ardalio beat a very good field.  How many three year old stakes races do you see where a rating 68 horse is balloted out.  I am starting to give some respect to Ardrossan.  He is leaving some handy types.  Possibly talking through my pocket because I was having a great day on the punt until Ascot at Perth thoroughly emptied me out.
    • So true and they should have questioned Craig when he got beaten by Got the Chocolates , why he didn't move up with a round to go and sit parked . Because as we know he probably would have won the race
    • Maybe like it was the best horse in the field. I thought he was far too cautious and she never had a chance ridden like that buried back, it was just a track gallop. Sam always rode her like she was the best, just my opinion.
    • From Deano,Danny and Arron we would like to thank everyone for their support going into the quokka. Deano never really got the rub of the green and was shuffled out on the turn. Craig Williams never knocked him around after and he returned blowing hard and a laceration to his hind leg. Deano did incredibly well on the trip, maybe a bit too good and perhaps we should of worked him a bit harder, so we take responsibility for that. We were incredibly proud and honored to represent trackside nz and perth racing in the race and all fans that have supported. We really appreciate that. Deano returns home this week for a well deserved spell, he'll have his moment again for sure. Thanks everyone.
    • What? he was only just drivin here 😟 such crap news this, just crap....condolences to his family and connections.....   Cheers Iraklis

    • Me either. He was put there to restore a bit of normalcy after Trumps first disaster. The Dems then did not use that time to make sure there was a serious successor and he was dropped right in it. Kamala Harris was an afterthought and a black woman was never going to win in the current America. What Biden did have was loyalty and a strong moral code - serving his country for 48 years in the Senate and White House. Not perfect and made mistakes ( who doesn’t ?) but widely respected for most of his career. Before the more recent deterioration of their friendship, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham — who succeeded the controversial Strom Thurmond, someone else who Biden was able to bridge gaps with — stated in 2015 that, “The bottom line is, if you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you got a problem. You need to do some self-evaluation, cause what’s not to like… He’s the nicest person I think I’ve ever met in politics.” If there is nothing else that the record needs to show when it comes down to Joe Biden’s legacy, is his love for the U.S. Senate, and his passion for serving in Congress.
